I thought about waiting for a 997s but in my opinion the performance difference between it and the 40th will be very very small and probably would not be able to be used accept by a professional driver.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This will depend on your personal taste. The 997 design was meant to appeal to those that prefer the 993 shape over the 996. The performance numbers may be deceiving as the 997S supposedly has a wonderful suspension package that should make it faster on the track. The car magazine reviews so far have been very favorable.
I plan to keep my 40th as the 997S has gone in the wrong direction for my taste.
40th is the best deal in a long time...Plushest interior and fast motor..All you have to do is dial in the suspension and you will be able to keep up with any 997s unless a pro is driving...
Not a big fan of 997s front...I like the front of the new boxster coupe much better than the 997..

My assessment- no brainer.
40th- Heavily discounted with 345hp and loaded options
vs 997S-350hp, Buick interior and wheels and then add comparable options.
Equates to mucho disposable cash in your pocket and a performance difference you will never appreciate.
I thought about waiting for a 997s but in my opinion the performance difference between it and the 40th will be very very small and probably would not be able to be used accept by a professional driver. Also, I figure the last year of the 996 will be more trouble free than the first year of the 997 and then add in the cost difference and the scales tip in favor of the 40th. The styling difference played no part in my decison. Anyone who is not a Porsche enthusiast would probably not be able to tell the difference between a 996 and 997 unless it was pointed out to them.
Now, let's think about the 40th. I say a better looking front end than the basic C-2 coupe - good enough for the C4 and Turbo at least. A matter of opinion. I think the C2's are ordinary. The wheels are unique and not just one of the many stock Porsche designs. Someone said easy to clean too, which is right.
MORE POWER. And for those that debate whether you can really feel more power, why do the critics say to buy the 997 - "S". Surely not for the power. Yeah, right.
Fully spec'd out. And . . . . . discounted.
Who cares if it will hold its value. You think your C4's, Turbo's and C2's will? Get real. It's a used car. But a Porsche. A totally clean silver spec'd out Porsche. If you want something that will appreciate, buy real estate or stock in Starbucks or something.
Buy a car you like, that you think looks good, cut your best deal and go have a blast.
