Replacing the suspension, shocks, brake rotors with ceramic and other parts of the underbody.

I thought the closed setting would be close to stock and the open close to a fister mod (like the pse).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My original exhaust sounded anemic. Yet I didn't want to go full blown and replace the entire shebang. I wasn't looking for head turning volume and roar. I just wanted the car to sound, well, like Porsche.
I found my solution with a switch to the Fister exhaust modification. The car doesn't sound anemic anymore, and it sounds more like I would expect to hear. A bit deeper and throatier. Quiet when you want to be, yet springs into full roar when the loud pedal is laid on.
Installation was far easier than I anticipated, at least once I figured out I was attempting to loosen two bolts that had nothing to do with mounting the muffler. That blew 3 hours of time. My own fault though. I hadn't looked into the right area under the car to find what the service manual said to expect. Once I discovered that, the first side came out easily enough and the next one took just a smidgen over a hour.
In fact, the most difficult part was returning the core. The shipping container was way too big to fit in any of our vehicles. Fortunately the answer to that was found easily enough.
All told, all my interactions with Darin were positive. Everything needed was provided, I didn't have to purchase any additional parts.
I was happy enough to make an exception to my 'no stickers' rule, and thus this is the first car I've ever owned that actually has a sticker on it. Honest!
I thought I would drop a note on a product that is worth every penny to me. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
It is likely all in my head, but the car seems to breath easier and wind up quicker. Or it could simply be now it sounds like a Porsche and I'm driving like have one
I had my Indy install this mod for me, although I handled the interaction with Darren at Fister, his service was first class and I would highly recommend that company, also the sound was just enough.. which is what I was looking for quiet around town, no drone even on the interstate, and a nice tone when you push the car a little..
That's one of the first mods I did to my car when I got it 16 years ago. I still love the sound. I did the install myself when I was a youngster at 56. At 72, I would probably pay someone to do it.
I agree. I'm 69. With the right equipment it was tolerable although getting it on the bolts were problematic. I had a shoulder replacement 3 years though which was the main contributor to the difficulty.
I've only had them a week, and it's the best and most pleasurable upgrade I've done.
Replacing the suspension, shocks, brake rotors with ceramic and other parts of the underbody. But this is only needed maintence to me.
The Fisters have been my only 'real' upgrade in my mind and the sound is everything I expected and more. I can't recommend this product enough to anyone looking to upgrade their stock exhaust.
Fister modded mufflers are GREAT. I am having my 4th set done now. The only one of my cars without Fister mufflers is my Turbo. It has a Kline X-pipe muffler.
I have been considering this modification too. Should ask directly, but since you are such a good spokesperson, did your mufflers have any rust? Mine has corrosion starting at the seams. Hoping I do not have to buy all new units. Similar to you, I want a nice sound and do not need a whole new system.
Mine where like new, shiny stock mufflers despite 92k. On the other hand, snow is rare and they only use sand. It's usually no more than an inch and disappears in a couple days. We got 18 in. In '83, but not since. The most I've seen since '70
Yes they have had a split starting in the bottom seam. Fister grinds out the rust , puts a small piece of channel over the seam and welds it in place, Weld repair is $100 per muffler. I was very pleased with their work. It was completed in 3 days after arrival at their facility.
I am the odd man out . My 3.8 996 with aftermarket headers and catless x-pipe the Fister modded mufflers were too loud for my ears . I ended up selling them . I think with cats they would have been better . I found some used SS aftermarket mufflers maybe Top Gear ? that to me are perfect . Enough growl to know they are not stock but docile enough to not get unwanted attention .
Darin at Fister does amazing work with very high quality welds . But for me and my car they were too loud . Sound is very subjective and everyone has different levels of what sounds good . It's great that we have choices .
Im kinda in the same boat. Im running catless w a top gear valved exhaust. I thought the closed setting would be close to stock and the open close to a fister mod (like the pse). But w catless the thing is too loud.
in the process figured out I actually dont want much sound at all. Im sending my old mufflers to Darin just for refurbishment and then throwing them back on the car w the catless cross overs.
Down the road I might opt for the 200cell cats. At the time of the engine rebuild the catless crossovers were cheaper and I needed every dollar. Its also where you get the most power out of the exhaust and thats what I was looking for but it makes for balancing the rest of the system more difficult.
