Though I don't condone street racing, I know for a fact that import boards use the 911 as a litmus test of how fast/how well their cars perform.

I always try to use every opportunity while I am driving to explain to her what an apex is and how to dissect a turn before you get to it, and when to accelerate out of an turn...etc....Recently I noticed that she is aiming for all the apex of a turn and cornering at much higher speeds than before.....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've always read these stupid little ric%# (Being PC) kill stories on the ric%$ (PC) boards, so I am being silly here. Why should they have all the fun? Was out to lunch today driving my C4 with the wife in the car, behind me at the light was a WRX. I am sure sitting at the light reading my Carrera 4 badge he would like to take a shot at my car. So I decided to punched it when the left turn signal turned green and as I guessed it he came full throttle to after me. After the turn I was at least 4 car lengths ahead of him, and then came another right hander into a narrow street. Hard blip, heel and toed into 2nd before the turn and then pedal to the metal again. Man! I was gone... He was now 10 car lengths behind. Should have known, another straight line bad *** ric%$ (PC) who doesn't know how to turn. Wife was screaming at me... OK! OK! now I hear what your new muffler sounds like. the whole time she had no idea I was having a little fun with the WRX..... But.... damn just realized I am in a Porsche 911 C4, I should whip the WRX's butt.... LOL!!!!! Just a little humor for Monday.......

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL! you are right, just being silly....

POST 4Original post

I learn a new term for that in bike world. they called them "squid"- base on the sea creature behavior. a squid can take off so fast that no one can keep up with in straight line but when it comes to turns, it will become almost complete stop...then take off again...

POST 5Original post

I'd be facing WWIII in my house if I drove like that with my wife in the car! Nice kill though.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, my silly idea was to make the post like one of them posts on the other Japanese car forums... for a good laugh on a stuffy workday. I guess I didn't explain it well enough. The drive was real, but I normally just drive like that anyways. LOL!

POST 7Original post

Depends on the Japanese car forum. If you're talking about civics and the like...sure, it's a bunch of jokers. WRXs are also slow as heck and I wouldnt have waste my gas on them. A STi? Ok maybe a bit more fun. Not sure why you had labeled specifically Japanese car forums though. If you should ever pull up next to something like a Supra TT (chances are you won't be pulling next to a stock one...with simple bolt-ons, BPU, the car will make around 450hp flywheel) it'll be putting bus lenghts on you. Anyone who keeps up with the automotive world knows how easy it is for these cars to make buttloads of power. I have a handful of friends who all have 750rwhp+ on their TTs.

POST 8Original post

I know the feeling, my girlfriend is the same. This week end we fallowed a few buddies on their bikes up to a superbike race up at Tremblant. The drive started at 80mph and ended at 110mph..... She wasn't happy!!

POST 9Original post

Robin...naughty, naughty, naughty. My bone head friend with a 9-2x Aero which is basically a WRX wagon kept talking about how he's raced M3/5, G35, Boxsters and 911s and beat them or they can't shake him. So one morning we met for lunch and while I normally do NOT condone street racing I had to shut him down in the M3. He could not believe how shut down he got. Yeah I'm a twit sometimes.

POST 10Original post

Street racing is a , take it to the track!!...lol. Good stuff, I've got a few suped up WRX/STI/EVO under my yellow belt.

POST 11Original post

I killed a regular WRX with my Cayenne Turbo, straight and twisty he was with his girlfriend too, bleh ... if you have a 911, you need to race an STI...LOL awesome story though, although my wife's first word would be, who are you racing? because we were together for 14 yrs since she was in high school, so she knows me very well

POST 12Original post

Isn't that funny that every single WRX owner will tell you first off that their car is faster than a Porsche...seems they can't say anything else about their cars. See y'a at the 'ring kiddo....

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have not the slightest idea what the heck that was, a WRX or STi. Don't pay much attention to them. I just knew it had a big scoop thing on the front hood... I never had the chance to look at the badge from behind. :P Regardless, the 996 C4 is awesome!!!!! baby. I knew if I was in the 993 I probably wouldn't be writing this post..... LOL

POST 14Original post

Hate to put a damper on the fun in this forum - and it was a fun story, but I thought from the subject line the tale was going to have quite a different twist. 18 year kid in the North Shore Chicago suburbs got a new toy - $35,000 WRX Sti for graduating top ten in his class and doing all the right things in high school. Ran it into the back end of a big American boat at 100 mph last weekend and was killed instantly. I see way too many kids in those things who haven't learned how to have fun while respecting the laws of physics. God, I'm getting old.

POST 15Original post

Congratulations on the kill. Though I don't condone street racing, I know for a fact that import boards use the 911 as a litmus test of how fast/how well their cars perform. The (problem?/perks?) of these cars are that for a minimal amount of money they can make the WRX's and STi's, essentially $30k cars, go amazingly fast. Alot of the new generation WRX and Evolution owners are ex-quarter mile honda owners who believe AWD will make up for their lack of driving skills. The general enthusiast path (from my observations) tends to be: Honda->Subaru/Mitsubishi->BMW->Porsche. So I guess we all have a little ricer in us still.

POST 16Original post

I was driving to work one day when this WRX comes screaming up on me, I'm like "Oh man I don't need this Sh*t now." Turns out it was my brother in law. We pulled up to the next light, not another car in sight, and then green. I thought his car would hold up a little bit but man when the rpm's reached 5K it was no contest. That so far has been my only experience with the 996 and 0-60 type pull. I really thought the wrx would have had more of a chance with all wheel drive and turbo spooling at 3k, but no our little 996's are deceiving, well, maybe not ; )

POST 17Original post

I've always wondered, do these rice rockets' engines last 100,000 miles plus (like P car/bimmer) or do they live fast/die young (engines, not drivers)?

POST 20Original post

POST 21Original post

Plenty of 100k Subarus around, and I remember reading that Honda had built a million VTEC engines without a warranty claim. I don't know how Nissans and Toyotas hold up over the long haul.

POST 22Original post

Saw a legacy the other day with 200K on it and running strong. A few timing belts a head gasket job, turns out if you take care of your technology it will take care of you.

POST 23Original post

I blame the twit who bought an 18 year old a 300+ hp car. As a WRX owner (daily driver), it feels easier to drive fast than my 993, but far less rewarding (requires less skill). I enjoy driving it every day, but I'm already tired of it - bought it in Nov. '05. Every other ricer on the road wants to run me, the cops like to stop me, and insurance is high. I think I'm going to get an Audi A4. The WRX forums are pathetic. Every other thread is titled "I wrecked my WRX today!" or "How can I make my WRX faster?" or "I tried to race a Porsche today but the puss wouldn't run me" My $0.02.

POST 24Original post

If I'd done that with my wife in the car I'd probably be getting served divorce papers today.......

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well... she is definitely rubbing off on me on her driving style. I always try to use every opportunity while I am driving to explain to her what an apex is and how to dissect a turn before you get to it, and when to accelerate out of an turn...etc....Recently I noticed that she is aiming for all the apex of a turn and cornering at much higher speeds than before..... One night she came home all pissed off, something about people that didn't know how to drive was driving too slow on a turns and forced her to miss her apex. I was telling myself, oh **** I created a monster....
