Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install result' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill space difference' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm pretty sure it was changed in 2002 as my '01 has the "cigar lighter" sized plug and my '03 has the US sized plug.

The 996* numbered part is the bezel to fill the space difference.

I might replace the lighter adapter with this part entirely or mount the adapter into the back of it the storage bay.

My V1, video cam, USB ports and refrigerator use a full socket each.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought this at Suncoast Porsche and here are the relevant genuine Porsche part numbers.
Note:
I'm assuming that both parts are required because the original assembly cannot undergo the conversion.

I can't tell from the product description but make sure it's the U.S. spec. The original lighter was European spec and most 12 volt accessories in the U.S. won't fit. Actually they fit but too loosely and fall out. I'm guessing you're purchasing this so you can use U.S. sized accessories, so make sure it is what you want. You will need both parts. When I bought mine many years ago both parts were in the kit. I would call the vendor to make sure.
Installation tip: Getting the old one out properly is a pain. I wasn't able to get it out in one piece so I just cut it from the back with a pair of wire clippers. You're not going to reuse that part anyway.
Suncoast has both parts as a US conversion kit. The 996* numbered part is the bezel to fill the space difference. The 997* lighter assembly is US specific.
I'm not looking forward to it, but I have a ton of accessories, so I need to go with a 4 plug/USB setup and the stock mount won't hold it no matter how much I manipulated it.
Now I have the parts, I wanted to post them because the 997 assembly might be less expensive from another source.

Remove old assembly and wires. Insert new bezel, the 997 assembly, reattach wiring. The weather precludes installing it for the next couple days. Not enough wiggle room in the garage.
Nice!!
My V1, video cam, USB ports and refrigerator use a full socket each. So I have a 1 to 4 socket adapter to plug them into that is located on the passenger side of the console. Fridge fits behind the seat and doesn't use a lot of power (hint: put the cold beverages in first, close the lid, give it a few minutes then power it up to minimize power draw when you plug it in)
What year is yours? My 996 and 986 (both ‘04s) never had any issue fitting accessories in the 12v socket.
My 964, however, needed a slight sleeve to get a secure fit.
I'm pretty sure it was changed in 2002 as my '01 has the "cigar lighter" sized plug and my '03 has the US sized plug.
I need to get one of those kits for my VW.
I just was sorting out this issue with my older air cooled 911 the really easy and inexpensive solution is to buy a cigarette lighter assembly (mine was from Oreilly Auto Parts, part number 10230) and disassemble it to use just the can as a sort of insert inside your cars current lighter. The longest part of the process was just stopping at the auto parts store to buy it.
basically you take apart the lighter assembly you bought and then cut the end of the can leaving you with basically a little metal tube. As is this will kinda work but its better if you flex the tabs out on it so it will stay in place in your cars cig lighter when you unplug things. But it fits in your cig lighter and at least on my 911SC you cant even tell its in there except that my radar detector plug will now stay in place.
Its $7 for the part at Oreilly
My cigarette lighter socket works as a lighter, but I find voltage adapters don't stay fully seated reliably, so I have to fiddle with it to remain charging. I have this USB-A & USB-C adapter

and will be doing the final install in a week or so.
I don't smoke and I can completely guarantee no one will be smoking in my car. I might replace the lighter adapter with this part entirely or mount the adapter into the back of it the storage bay. I like keeping the appearance as close to original as possible in general but there are times to make exceptions.
Get this part in the link below, or equivalent, and pull the inner bit out. Cut it down to look like the piece on the left in the picture. Bend the tabs out and then stick it into your cigarette lighter and it will lock into place. It will not be noticeable at all but the US size devices will fit. Downside is your old cigarette lighter plug probably wont fit but if it ever matters you can pull this inset out.

I remember when these came with radar detectors and early car 'phone kits. Nice to see them back.
