However, I do not want to end up with a $12K-$15K rebulit engine repair bill as a result of my fun.

Maybe a stupid question, but I feel I should ask anyway.

Only thing you will have as an added expense if the typical: more frequent oil changes, tires, clutch,............

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is a 3.4L Carrera durable enough to take to track days and drivers ed events? I feel that it is, but the stories of blown engines on this forum have me spooked. I came to the 996 from several Audis, and I enjoyed driving those cars very hard on the track. While track time pushes a car very hard, it is not beating on the car if done correctly. That being said, I do push my cars very hard at these events. I never had any problem with the Audis doing this. So, my question is as stated above. I would think that a car built for performance like a 996 should be expected to be driven like this. However, I do not want to end up with a $12K-$15K rebulit engine repair bill as a result of my fun. Please tell me the doomsday people on this board are overreacting. I cannot see the purpose of owning this car if you cannot drive it like it was meant to be driven.

POST 2Original post

Yes. Provided that you treat your car well, it will be plenty durable for DEs and track days. Don't sweat it.

POST 5Original post

You engine will feel at home on the track if driven properly! Only thing you will have as an added expense if the typical: more frequent oil changes, tires, clutch,............ Oh yeah, and your seals will love you for it. I have been tracking my car for some time now and the car actually feels better now than it did day one. I have learned how to drive the car smoother now at its limits. The boxer engine just sings when hovering around redline
