Suspected cause
i think thats completely unfounded, i suspect a large number of the [few] pairs of litronics on ebay are people parting their cars back to stock before trading in/selling.
Leading evidence: 'large number of the [few] pairs of litronics' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'large number of the [few] pairs of litronics' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check into the details of the warranty' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
To prove it, you need to either see it on a bill of sale or go to a Porsche dealer and have them run the VIN to check it is a valid warranty.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am considering the purchase of a 99 C2 w/ 50K miles. It does not have all of the options I want but it does have one option that I have not seen in any other cars Ive been looking ata full factory warranty until 12/07 (according to the current owner). I think I can get the car in the high 20s low 30s. The upgrades I will need to add right away are:
Xenon headlights
18 wheels
Clear side markers
I have seen cars optioned the way I want them w/ similar miles for similar money but with no warranty. Im trying to figure out if this is a good decision financially. I guess my question is two fold: 1. can a 1999 still have a factory warranty for two more years and whats it worth? 2. What is an estimate for the cost of the upgrades?
Wheels (18" twists w/ tires $1500?)
Side markers (?)
Headlights (?)
Thanks for your input
That can only be a certified pre-owned car. The normal 4 year factory warranty probably ran out in 2003 or 2004. If this a Porsche dealer, no problem, he can certify it now for two years. If not a dealer, that means someone bought the car from a dealer and the car is back on the market.
Porsche does not provide any documentation on the extended warranty. To prove it, you need to either see it on a bill of sale or go to a Porsche dealer and have them run the VIN to check it is a valid warranty.
I would definitely get documentation for this as far as the CPO status goes. Most likely it is an aftermarket warranty as I don't think any 1999 cars are CPO'd anymore [I could be wrong, but a 7 year old car is too old for a CPO to exist as far as I know].
I also don't know if Porsche CPOs are transferrable to subsequent owners--something worth looking into. My guess is that the seller bought a worthless aftermarket warranty and is trying to act like it is from the factory...
Get a PPI regardless. It may uncover problems that you don't want to deal with. 18" twists with tires are probably close to the $2K mark if you want Porsche branded wheels and decent tires. Xenons are really pricey and probably not worth it to throw into a car like this [think around $2K probably]. Smoked side markers won't be more than $75-100.
Good luck and keep us posted.
full litronics headlights can be found for $1200 on ebay if you keep your eyes pealed for a good deal.
wheels can be found for 1500 with nearly new tires in good shape, ditto keeping your eyes open.
how do you steal xenons without getting into the car?

As the others said check into the details of the warranty.
clear/smoked side markers can be had for $35 any day. Check out ebay.
Litronics are expensive but imo a very good upgrade and worth every penny. Wheel prices vary. If you want the turbo twist that were available in 99 and you are patient you should be able to get the wheels for less than $800 used.
What other options are you interested in? Depending on what they are and how important they are it is better to look for a car with the options. i.e. items such as the aero kit are much more expensive to add than it would cost to find the car with it. Good luck with the search.
You're kidding right!?! They can be popped right out if you know the trick and no, you don't need to get into the car to do it. It is a design flaw that has been posted on this forum. Do a search. The worst part is when the theif doesn't know the trick and buggers up your car getting the lights out.
You CAN get a CPO on a 99 from the dealer. All the info is available on the PCNA website. Also, the CPO can be transferred to the next owner as long as it is a PRIVATE PARTY sale. You can not transfer a CPO to a dealer.
that's an interesting read, i wasn't aware of that. i still didn't see a technical explanation of how that's possible though, i replaced the bulb in my halogen last week and it seems like it would break the locking mechanism if you were to force it out?
I don't want to go into the method of removal but remember, the theif doesn't really care about damage to your car. The entire light assembly comes right out and fairly easily. Scary really.
Xenon headlights // i have them on my 01, don't see it's a big deal.wouldn't try to get it if i didn't have it.
18 wheels // be careful with ebay, sometimes they sale those repaired wheel, i wouldn't buy those, no matter how cheap they are.
Clear side markers. i have yellow side mark, and don't care to change them.
Thanks for the replys...I guess I should start by making sure its a CPO warranty. I will get the VIN and call my local dealer. Assuming it is, how much value would you place on it (22 months of CPO warranty)
mark
Edmunds says a 1999 with a CPO warranty is worth about $4000 more than uncertified. From a private party I would try to discount that markup by about 25% to 50%. Just remember that is not the same as a new car warranty. There are a lot of things not covered and I think there is a $50 deductible. My car is under the same warranty but I have never had to have anything done to it on the warranty. Hope I never have to use it.
