Suggestion
Mine included the expansion tank, new cap, new sending unit and a $45.00 additional charge to clean off the inside of the rear fender wall because coolant had splattered there on and off for about a month before I detected the leak(that was done at my request)...but I agree, It was still steep for something I could have done, had I had the time to do it.

If anyone lives in the Los Angeles California area, and is in need of work to their p-car, i would be more than happy to recommend him.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got my p-car back after installing new coolant expansion tank and cap.
Paid $202.00 for tank, 15 for cap (plus tax) from local p-car dealer and had installed for $50. Reasonably priced and charged I think.
Temperature gauge now with low load is between 8 and 0 of 180 mark.

spirited driving the needle sits dissecting the 0 in half or goes to the far right edge of the 0. I trust this is normal operating range!
I was without the car for only one day, but damn how i missed it

I agree with ubergeek. $50.00 ifor install is nothing. I had mine done about 2 months ago here in Portland and it was $600.00 same parts and labor. You got a deal!!!
Its a 1999 C2, with 18's. Arena Red with Savanna Beige leather.
I just got a 1/2-*** decent digital camera. So I want to take some pics and post. I just have to learn how to create my avatar.
I am glad to read that you all say my charges/labor was a good deal. You know when you pull up to get an estimate for something, as soon as the shop sees the p-car, they think their shop / and worker fees are covered for that month.
But actually I must clarify, the parts are original from dealer. The labor was done by my local mechanic ( i take all my cars i've ever owned to him, he is so honest - i always tell him he shouldn't have been a mechanic
.) He has experience working on p-cars so i trust him in that regards as well.
If anyone lives in the Los Angeles California area, and is in need of work to their p-car, i would be more than happy to recommend him. (i get nothing out of it.)

Jeff...
After I had it done, I checked with Sunset what their cost would be since my was done by an independent...Their price was $775.00!!! quoted by one of their service advisors.

Panerai,
The replacement coolant tank is a reinforced model with a different part number. My understanding is that the 1999 cars were especially vulnerable and that later model years got the reinforced tank from the factory.
Mine failed at about 37,000 miles in August 2004. You could easily identify the reinforced tank from the 1999 original.
"Your mileage may vary" but I think I'm good until 74,000 miles or August 2009, whichever comes first.
wow you had it repaired at a dealer for 50 bucks?!?!?! i just got mine back and they wanted to charge me 600~700 bucks! i asked how much they are charging me for the tank... 350!!! i said not thanks, ordered one from sunset porsche for 164 and i will be installing this weekend.
