Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install but he doesn't know anyone' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install but he doesn't know anyone' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hello all, I have recently acquired myself a 996
cabriolet. It is great and I want to install one
of these smartTop things that I see advertised
in Excellence. It allows you to raise and lower
the roof at up to 25 mph with just a single touch
of the button. They are reasonably priced and I already
asked my mechanic if he could get me one and he
said $400 installed but he doesn't know anyone
who owns one. That's how I ended up here looking for
answers. so....
What's the word?
is this thing cool to install and use or is going to
do things I don't expect?
At $400 you are getting ripped off. SmartTop is a very simple DIY, plug-and-play installation -- that's the best thing about the product.
Dell recently organized a Group Buy of SmartTop. You can find more info on pricing as well as DIY tips here:

By the way, congratulations on your new car and welcome to Rennlist. Post pictures of your new car when you get a chance (it is customary for new members to Rennlist to post pictures).
Have to agree with Gary on this one. Your mechanic is ripping you off. At that price he is claiming 1.5-2 hours of labor when it takes all of 10 minutes. The thread about the group buy has some great pointers, tips, and input from many people. Give it a look.
Congrats on the new car!
I looked it up myself and you are right: instalation should
be cake.
And they have a september special, free shipping!
and the price
was already much better than what the guy at the garage wanted.
It is crazy what those guys charge just to do 10 min of work.
I just e-mailed them, because the post on RennTech indicates that they are having a special of 20% off list plus price free shipping for the month of September.
So for those of you that have this in place, do you take it out and switch back to the original control before you have your dealership do any work on your car?
This will be mod #3. One for each week I've had my car. Why can't I just be happy with what I have?
No I don't take it out for when the I go to the dealer. Maybe if it was top related.
As for the 20% off. I don't that is off the price on the site. I think if you read a bit more carefully that it is 20% of the retail price and is "reflected" in the new introductory price of $279 but now with free shipping. Still a decent price. Can't imagine them breaking the $300 barrier though.
