After spending some time on the Ferrari boards, where they're all talking about polishing their previous polish job and checking relative humidity to see if they can take the car around the block, he decided to stick with a real car and a real car-owner group.

Suggestion

Since you are going to be in Oregon, you might as well take advantage of their zero state sales tax, and pick up a few other things, such as the water pump, which probably could use a replacement due to age and the plastic impeller.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bought my 996 in December and promptly put her to bed for the winter. Hope to get her out next week, as the snow gradually melts here in Central Alberta. Visited the Porsche factory in 1986 as a young man and swore one day I would own one, and just before Christmas 2012 it happened. 2000 996, one owner, local car with 30000km Don't have major mods planned, only some minor ones and no performance related ones. Did the iPod cable add and have a Kuda mount on the way. Other than that looking at the spoiler switch relocate & garage door switch integration. I might put some new rims on and have that debate daily with myself. Anyways when I was looking, reading this forum was a wealth of information! ( trying to post from ipad, hope the picture attaches )

POST 2Original post

Congrats and welcome. That would suck, buying one and having to lock it up for the winter (I'm in Florida, so that idea is foreign to me anyway). Great looking car, enjoy! DS

POST 3Original post

Welcome to the Y2K club. Love the aero kit. Great looking ride!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is tough to look at the Porsche and motorcycles locked up in the garage & then the foot of snow in my yard. The roads should be clear enough I hope by Easter at the latest.

Y2K club...love it! And now in love with your avatar!

POST 6Original post

welcome. nice car. enioy. tough being in a northern climate. bought mine in january and still in storage. hoping to get it out in late March but more snow later this week.

POST 7Original post

Nice car! I don't think you really "need" to do anything but drive it. Of course the time you spend on here is proportional to the amount of money you'll spend on your car. Sometimes(most of the time) on silly frivolous stuff you could do without.

POST 8Original post

Congrats and welcome to the boards! Beautiful ride

POST 9Original post

Congrats! Nice 996. I recently took the plunge as well a little over a month ago. You will love it.

POST 10Original post

Congrats! mine is also sleeping for the winter.

POST 11Original post

Nice car! Eager to hear about your experience with the spoiler switch, I want to do the same thing.

POST 12Original post

Congrats as well -nice looking car. I've had my Artic Silver '99 C2 since December 2011 but since I'm from LA (Lower Alabama) there was no need to hide it away for the winter when we picked it up. Right now you say no mods but given enough time I suspect you will give in. By the way where in Alberta are you from? I used to live in Edmonton and Calgary so I know all about the cold and snow. We moved down here about 15 years ago and love it. Have not shoveled any snow since

Thanks for all the compliments and comments. Not sure why they would put the damn thing in the footwell. I will tackle end of April, start of May. Local dealer wanted $90 for switch! Will be in Portland mid-April and Sunset can get it to me for $30. ( Another great RL tip I learned about Sunset ). Like to support local but really? 3 times the cost and that's with my member 'discount'.

POST 14Original post

Especially considering there are blanks on the dash! You are right about the dealers too, I've found net prices lower. If I do mine before then I'll let you know how it goes.

POST 15Original post

Local Porsche dealer wanted $72 for a pair of wiper blades! I didn't even bother asking if that's before or after our 13% tax..... Since you are going to be in Oregon, you might as well take advantage of their zero state sales tax, and pick up a few other things, such as the water pump, which probably could use a replacement due to age and the plastic impeller.

I didn't know you owned a Ferrari?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 10318930

Actually I wouldn't need the wiper blades if I owned a Ferrari, 'cause the car would never see a drop of rain, and I would be proud of how little I drove my Ferrari when talking with other Ferrari owners of the like!

POST 19Original post

Welcome to Rennlist and to Porsche ownership (both are two-syllable words, by the way). Love the silver, that's my second favorite behind black (which my C2 Cab is). As for Ferrari, I have a friend and long-time Porsche-phile who recently contemplated buying a 458. After spending some time on the Ferrari boards, where they're all talking about polishing their previous polish job and checking relative humidity to see if they can take the car around the block, he decided to stick with a real car and a real car-owner group. (He's buying a 991 S, I believe.)

Congrats on the new Pcar, enjoy!!! I love the look of the aero kit on the MKI cars...

POST 21Original post

Welcome aboard, might be a little optimistic when it comes to the snow melting in Alberta any time soon, especially looking through the window at the moment (i wanna vomit). Looks like a really nice specimen. Congrats on the buy, and maybe we'll see you in the spring if you are around Edmonton. Cheers!

POST 22Original post

Congrats on the purchase Freakhead !! I love the aerokit, would love a few more pictures. I would also consider a LED Lighting Kit . Hopefully spring is right around the corner, this year it seems to be dragging

POST 23Original post

Welcome to Rennlist, nice looking coupe. You know, they do make snow tires. Anyway, always nice to see new 996 member.

POST 24Original post

It was Soooooo tempting to take the car out yesterday, but back to winter today... Calgary, +10 degrees C yesterday, -14 by saturday. my first winter with my Porsche, and i have already learned not to look under the cover except when doing work on the car. perhaps i will get winter wheels and tyres for next winter....

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 10320786

I could never do that too my 911, 'cause just like with many things, there is "RoW Winter" and than there is "Alberta Winter"

POST 26Original post

Yes, many arguements going on inside my head. black ice, rock chips, salt, ice chunks from other vehicles, etc, etc. but to drive year-round would be so many more smiles.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 10321381

Just don't let those "I cannot believe you don't drive your Porsche in the winter!" guys see your comment. They will chastise you!

POST 28Original post

Not true. Even though I do enjoy my Porsche year round, that doesn't mean every owner should do the same. I love going up to the White Mtns. to ski, but when I drive my 99' coupe, I have as much fun driving there as I do when I get there.
