Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Just did mine....tip - if the new one you purchase has the locking clips already on it - no problem otherwise use hemostats or something to hold onto the old clips while you take them out so they don't fall down into the engine bay.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '04 S4 pneumatic engine lid support wont effectively won't hold up the lid any longer and I need a replacement as I don't believe it can be adjusted (?). Anyone know the part number and where to find one? Thx for all replies.

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 10319300

Mine did the same thing and needed replacement...go to pelicanparts.com: easy to find the part/part #... BTW, it's a very easy DIY replacement...good luck with the fix.

POST 4Original post

Just did mine....tip - if the new one you purchase has the locking clips already on it - no problem otherwise use hemostats or something to hold onto the old clips while you take them out so they don't fall down into the engine bay.

POST 5Original post

Yes pelican....while youre ordering get tge wipers too theyre a great price. And the strut is about as easy, if not easier, than replacing the wipers. Its nice to not have to use the stick anymore to hold up the lid...rather uncouth when at the gas station

POST 6Original post

Dreamcarrera and Vancouver (or anyone) can you send me to a DIY page for changing the engine lid strut on my 99 C2 996.. I need to change mine and have the part already in the garage waiting to be exchanged. Thanks in advance.

POST 7Original post

I replaced my front struts ..rear is similar. There is a little spring clip that holds the strut arm to the body. Just get a small knife or screw driver in there and pop it off .. I whacked mine with a rubber mallet . Don't forget to support the lid so it doesn't fall down when the strut comes off. Pelican is great source.

POST 8Original post

ya just pop the spring clips open with a flat head. easy off easy on. takes maybe 1 minute

POST 10Original post

Hurdigurdiman - this DIY will make you feel like a master mechanic. Literally, between 45-60 seconds to do.

POST 11Original post

Ditto here. Did the front trunk and rear engine cover struts at the same time (may as well, the engine cover needed it and the frunk couldn't be far behind). As others said, it's super-easy to pop them off and even easier to pop them on. Pelican Parts or Suncoast Porsche -- both are great (I used the latter).
