Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Other than replacing the AOS Twice (ultimate was not in stock when my original AOS went out), the car has been flawless.
Leading evidence: 'Replace aos twice (ultimate was not in stock' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace aos twice (ultimate was not in stock' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I make 2 oil changes per year 5w50 as proposed by Porsche for these models.

Otherwise just change the oil every 6 months or 5k milage whichever comes first and use a high quality oil.

With an avg 8k miles per year normal use, we should expect cars with ~200k miles on the clock to be the average.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking to add another Porsche to my garage. I've always had a strong affinity for the 996.2 Carrera 4S in particular. I'm looking at one with 100k miles. Is that considered a lot for these models? Any major problems I should lookout for when inspecting it?
To be honest, 100k isn't bad as long as the car was taken care of. If anything, the fact that it has been driven regularly is a plus. Just review maintenance records and take note of the usual ie. if IMS was replaced.
I bought mine with 92k. I drive it daily. I've seen a poster or two that have as much as 300k without the engine rebuilt. But have the bore scooped starting with #6 since that's the general consensus where bore scoring shows up before spreading.
Otherwise just change the oil every 6 months or 5k milage whichever comes first and use a high quality oil. If lacking documentation, have all the fluids replaced as soon as you can to have a good baseline to start with. Although I bought mine from my brother, he didn't have documentation to show the 90k service was done. So that's what I did before 2 weeks passed. Better safe than sorry'.
My 996.2 has effectively 190k miles on it. No rebuild still pulls hard.it is an old engine but was properly maintained by the previous owners. I change the oil every 3k miles and drive it 3-4 times per week. I make 2 oil changes per year 5w50 as proposed by Porsche for these models. Engine wise you should be fine, differentials is a different story that others may reply.
Currently sitting just shy of 251K on my 2003 C4S. Original drivetrain from the factory. Still runs and drives amazing!
It all comes down to the luck of finding a car that was effectively maintained and not abused.
Bought the car in 15 with 105K, daily drove year round for four years bringing it up to 213K. Oil changes every 3-5K miles, all other fluids and services per Porsche recommendations. No one has put a wrench to the car but me except for a few alignments.
These cars can be phenomenal work horses! IMO, the worst thing anyone can do to these cars is not drive them regularly. Finally going to get around to putting in the IMS solution later this year. Its still running the original IMS it came with when new from the factory.
I bought mine with 127k a little over 2 years ago. Other than replacing the AOS Twice (ultimate was not in stock when my original AOS went out), the car has been flawless.
I daily drive it and now have 170k on it. I never wonder if it's going to start or give me problems. Just like driving a camry.
I'm selling my house as I moved down to my wifes house fully and don't drive as much as I used to. Makes me sad...
Don't let mileage scare you.
These are are ~25 years old. With an avg 8k miles per year normal use, we should expect cars with ~200k miles on the clock to be the average. IMHO these cars will outlast specimens with 100-150k because these were not driven as frequently as the others.
Over here (Greece), if you look at the ads, all 996s being sold are less than 200k kilometers, meaning <140k miles. Bullsh1t. All these have their odometers turned back. I would not be surprised that this happens to the UK, US and other countries on these cars. So, saying that my car has 100k but not being the original owner, I believe is pure placebo. This is how I bought mine 2 years ago; after seeing all kinds of frauds in km in all 996s being sold, I opted for the one with the most kilometers on the clock, obviously with the lowest price. Did not regret it.
