Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use both' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace while im in a certain area' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Now I just have to figure out what parts to replace while Im in a certain area.

FCP is more expensive except when they run a clearance sale (which I took advantage of).

I didnt use my tie rods that came in the kit, however, so you could say a few bucks there by buying the parts separately vs the kit with the tie rods.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good morning, Ive done some searching, cant really find what Im looking for. Im wondering if you guys can help me create a comprehensive list of suspension parts front and rear so that I can start purchasing a little bit at a time for a suspension refresh, recommended part brands as well as part brands to stay away from. Parts would be for a 2001 996 Carrera 2 Cabriolet, 87k miles. Thanks in advance.
Many vendors sell F/R suspension refresh kits, you can start by looking at what each is offering and decide what level of parts quality you are comfortable with. Meyle & TRW would be my picks outside of Porsche OEM parts. The kits usually list the OEM part number equivalents so you can build your lists from there. Here is one example:

I've used both
Elephant Racing
and
Design 911
Elephant racing is a bit easier to navigate in my opinion. One thing to note, Design 911 is in the UK, so if you order from them, you'll have duty fees.
I second this, I went the same route. You'll find TRW markings on your original parts. For Genuine components
Gaudin Porsche Parts
has fantastic pricing and great customer service, as does
Suncoast Parts
in FL.

Here's a thred you might want to read, also applies to C2 as well, should give you an idea of what you'll need what to buy and how much money you will be looking at
Thanks for the replies, i really appreciate it. I saw the kit from Hamburg technic, but the reviews I've found weren’t great. I will check everything out that y’all recommended. Thanks for your time
In case my experience is in any way helpful, I just got done replacing: front control arms, tie rods, f&r sway bar links, f&r sway bar bushings f&r strut assemblies (except springs), motor mounts, and trans mount. All done with genuine parts sourced from Delaware, Gaudin, Sunset, and FCP Euro. Found Delaware mostly had the best price except for a few components (they are also close to me in DC). FCP is more expensive except when they run a clearance sale (which I took advantage of). Happy to share my orders/part numbers if helpful.
Not cheap but did a lot of work myself and, IMHO, definitely worth it.
Now planning the rear control arm refresh
now that I have the parts catalogue, its a lot easier for me to understand what parts I need. Now I just have to figure out what parts to replace while Im in a certain area. I have coil overs being delivered sometime in July and as long as Im done with my IMS/RMS and UAOS replacement Ill start tackling that, prob sometime in august.
I just refreshed all my suspension and just bought the kits through FCP euro because it was easy.
Realize that some of the 996 kits from FCP will have 997 parts in them but they all fit fine and work great in my experience.
I bought the Meyle front control arm kit and rear control arm kit, I bought OEM strut mounts, bearings, etc all from FCP. I believe the tie rods and sway bar links are TRW.
I didnt use my tie rods that came in the kit, however, so you could say a few bucks there by buying the parts separately vs the kit with the tie rods. My philosophy was if the parts are still good I wouldnt replace them just for the heck of it.
Also realize that, if you buy the kits, some
of the bolts/nuts/washers that come in them are pretty dang expensive. I just rolled with it and installed all new hardware but you could cut some cost there if you wanted.
I use FCP a lot for two reasons:
1. They almost always have what I want in stock, and Ive bought a lot of crap from them for my BMWs. Their customer service has been great in my experience.
2. They can get stuff shipped to me fairly quick from their warehouse in PHX. I get stuff like 1.5 days after I order it.
As others have mentioned above, they may not be the cheapest, but they were the most convenient for me and that means a lot to me.
^^ FCP will allow you to return the unused hardware and/or parts. I returned my unused components for store credit but I think they’ll also refund you.
Awesome thank you, I am really hoping to get everything all in one kit, I know it would be more expensive that way, but way more convenient. Thanks for the reply
Having done this previously, consider “while you’re in there”:
- wheel bearing replacement
- adjustable rear suspension if you want more negative camber, especially if lowered
- the only place I’d put urethane bushings is in the anti roll bars, though it’s controversial,, otherwise stock rubber
- I was surprised, TRW is the oes. The others are reproductions
