So much for a nice top-down beer run on a sunny day.

I will run a search, but is there a rear seat delete option on the 996 cabs?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay, I have finally found something about the 996 that I find utterly annoying. I was returning from Costco from picking up a couple of things with the top down when I had to brake hard. Suddenly, I was thumped really hard in the back of the seat by the case of beer that I had placed on the folded down seats.
Why in all their infinite wisdom did Porsche remove the little plastic lips that keeps things from sliding forward and into the front seatbacks!!! The 993 has them...
I spent the next 20 minutes in rush-hour traffic with the beer hitting my seat every time I stopped. So much for a nice top-down beer run on a sunny day.
I am guessing that the reason that the cab does not is because there is not enough room for the seat backs to be fully upright if they were in place. The rollbar apparatus takes up a lot of space. I am going to have to rig up something- straps or maybe adapt the coupe/ targa ones to my car.

I just took the rear seat cushion and the centre part off on the one behind driver's seat. Now I can put things on that area without having to worry about the leather.
Part 1 and 5, they were just velcroed to the carpet.

anything going in the trunk here gets hot from the radiators putting heat into the trunk. doind groceries i pick canned good, toilet paper and such for the trunk and the rest goes in the car.
Haven't noticed that but it makes perfect sense. In my car, the seat is adjusted to perfectly allow for a 12-pack to sit on the floor between the driver's seat and the rear seat.
Sadly, Porsche not only got rid of that lip, but also eliminated the tie downs from the rear area of the 911. Big mistake. However, you can make your own (which I highly encourage), to secure your hardware. When traveling, I don't have to think anymore about what's going on back there!
I got some "D" hooks from a fabric store, and used them. They are fastened to the back panel with zip ties that have a reinforcement strip on the back of the panel. The straps are nylon straps with the snap clips on them, also from the fabric store.
Very nice install. I have been thinking of building a RSD ala the 993 and 964 utilizing factory carpet and door hardware. It would be great to have a real package shelf that I could put my Golden Retriever on and also have locking compartments below. My Golden loves riding in our cars, and has always liked the porsche cabs we have owned.
