Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I let the wife borrow the car today. I was sitting in a meeting late afternoon and someone calls one of the attendees looking for me. They say my cell phone has been going off constantly in my office and when they went in to shut it off (since it was annoying everyone outside) they noticed my wifes name on caller ID. They were looking for me since it must be very important. As I stepped outside into the hall the admin is already headed to the conf. room with my cell. I look at the phone and I have 15 missed calls! I think "oh s(*&"! I call my wife and ask what's wrong. She says "I'm stuck at the gas station and can't open the gas thingy!"

POST 2Original post

why is that so hard to figure out for some people? I have run into the same thing at full service stations.

POST 3Original post

Yup.... you have failed to give her the tool she needed to be kind and fill it up after she took it out and burned all the gas at the local autocross !!

POST 5Original post

lol. lesson learned... no more borrowing the car.

True story...5 HRS ago.

POST 7Original post

My wife doesn't even know where I keep the keys...

POST 8Original post

I did the same thing myself. When I took the car for a PPI it needed some gas so I stopped at a gas station. Searched high and low for a gas door switch and couldn't find one. Had to call the PO.

POST 10Original post

LOL. I will never have that problem. My wife can't drive a manual trans..... Funny read though Go easy on her.

POST 12Original post

rofl, that is funny after the fact. The first time i got gas i think it took me a while.

POST 13Original post

Proper gas stationing was a specific learning goal in my wife's 996'ing.

POST 14Original post

funny on the gas deal, but seriously guys it's a big deal to have the wife or anyone else you rely on be able to drive a manual. i had a good buddy die because his wife couldn't get him to help due to inability to work the tranny. he laid there and bled to death while she frantically tried to get the car to move. so teach anyone you can to work that clutch... sorry to be a downer on an otherwise funny thread.

POST 15Original post

My wife drives the Carrera all the time... good at it. But I keep all the cars filled with gas. Can't think of the last time she had to get out at the pump.

POST 16Original post

OP, that's hilarious! It reminded me of when I bought a new Audi A4 and did this: how do you open the fuel filler door? . Good memories!

POST 17Original post

I had a new 528i loaner from the BMW dealer a few weeks back. It took me nearly 5 minutes to figure out how to put the car in reverse and release the parking brake. While the technology package was fascinating, I don't think I ever want a car so complicated. After three days I was only begining to get the hang of iDrive and the rest of the car's functionality. And I'm no Luddite! Maybe I'm getting old, but what was so darned wrong with a three dial HVAC system and a radio with frickin' *****. I was looking at '08 Bullitt Mustangs on eBay last night (I'm gonna own one of those eventually, I can feel it) and got sort of nostalgic looking at that simple and effective dashboard.

POST 18Original post

That was the 1st thing I showed her... then how to disconnect the trickle charger. She haven't touched it since...

POST 19Original post

Is it different on a 996? On my 996TT you just push down on it and its open.
