Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I read on a review on the 99 996 that some had drive by wire....then I found a thread where someone mentioned that it only came on c4s . I have a c2 and would like to find out it i have it or not. Any help would be great thanks

POST 5Original post

Only the C4 model has it. After dealing with it for six years now, I'd rather have a cable. It's next to impossible to get the computer to modulate the revs the way I like. Want a quick throttle blip? Too bad, the computer is going to give you 6k RPMs...

POST 6Original post

the only 996's in US that were cable driven is the 99 c2's. 99 C4's and 00+ 996's are all DBW

Can you explain this? I've never had an issue w/a drive by wire car yet (well, the new Volvo S40 is a bit touchy at lower rpm operation but)...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no issue with the wire...just looking into sprint boosters...well i was

POST 10Original post

What about '99 C2s with PSM? Or was that not an option? I thought the DBW was so the PSM could control the throttle. (And all of the '99 C4s have PSM.) Tooloud, I've driven my '99 C4 for 30k miles, both street and track, and have never noticed any kind of lag or lack of responsiveness. When do you find the DBW intrusive or a problem?

POST 11Original post

I assumed that DBW cars would suffer from lag and jerkiness...until I bought my first MkII 996. In fact it's been seamless, tranparent and easy to control. I don't ever give it a second thought.
