Do we have anything like that over here? Yes, tried the search, but nothing came up. If there isn't one, should we start one? As many people are waiting for the Excellence pricing report, I thought we could start our own. I am borrowing this format from the 993 forum, who borrowed it from the 964 forum. Low 20's 3months ago....w/Fabspeed stg1 and Aero. Purchased from a wealthy guy who made some real estate moves that went sour.

Lots of variables when it comes to pricing. Who you are buying from (Dealer, eBay, CarMax, Car.com, Craig's List...), year, color, options, condition, service records, repairs needed, shipping costs, time of the year, current economy, financing available.... Start by checking KBB.com, and the sales outlets I mentioned earlier. This might get you in the ball park. Then continue to monitor pricing and what cars sold for. When I contacted people and they had sold the car, I asked them what they sold it for.

On mine I remember the comments they made included, "Lots of miles on the car but a great price and it shows just how low 996 prices are going." But yeah, it'll be interesting to see what the overall report says this year. I do notice that there are still some sellers who are oblivious to what the market around them is showing and try to sell their cars for $10k+ what all others are going for.

Very high 20's 2 years ago for a bone stock C4 Aero. Reason for selling to me was his 997 TT had arrived.

High 30's for a low mileage '03 C4S in January of this year.

yup yup. When I was looking for my car, there was a local women who was selling the car for her husband because he was lazy and really didn't want to part with it. it was a 99 arena red C2 6spd coupe with saddle interior and almost no options. It even had 17 inch wheels and a casette deck to give you an idea. She was the 2nd owner. Picked it up from the local P-car dealer after the orginal owner had it for a year. it had 21k on the car, had the RMS previously replaced and sat for really long period of time in the garage. She described the tires as "nearly new". They were Michelin pilots that were installed 5 years ago! The interior smelled like only mold was living in it. She wanted $32k firm! Needless to say I left that dog where it slept. This was June of last year.

That is a good buy! In this economic climate sellers should to consider how many serious buyers are in the market versus supply. If you want to move your car at the price you deem to be correct, how long would you have to wait for that buyer and depreciation the car will take during that time. Sometimes, its better to take the $2K hit right off the bat and move on. Enjoy the replacement instead of dealing with the extra car. The new owner should come on Rennlist and ask the us how to spend all of the savings wisely and quickly.

I have a hard time figuring out prices for cars out there when I can whoop all of them with my gsxr1000 easy. Doesn't make sense to charge so much for a slow ride.

When I bought my car, there was a bone stock 2003 for sale a Lexus dealer, but with blue interior they wanted $25k and they kept calling me for 3 weeks as the car was not selling. I think the IMS problem and Porsche dealer reputation to be overpriced and unfriendly is killing the car value. On top of that you have the 993 attracting older buyers and the 996TT that is not that much more expensive for those who can go past the $35k line. The base 996 price can't be over $30k IMO. I have been hunting for mine for 6 months. If I had to buy again though I would certainly add the $5k more and buy a CPO. Extended warranty cost $3k anyways...

2002 arctic silver on black C2, PSM, no leather, no bose, Carrera III wheels, 75% brakes and tires. 72K miles but a new motor in 2005 at 40K miles. Not a mark on the car. Bought from Porsche dealer in WA state in June 2009 for $26.5K.

This thread is telling you nothing. Too many diverse data points with too many variables. Focus yourself and research the auto sources for a month or more. I did this for 6 months last year and pulled the trigger in Oct '09.

who cares about the price. I am driving mine until the wheels fall off. I can't replace what I've got with the price people are willing to pay for it so I am going to enjoy it myself.

There are plenty out there to choose from and the prices are all over the boards.... there are many sellers that has diverse history in their buying process and the car's themselves has its unique history as well. My first post: Just paid $32,900 for C4 Cab w/50K, recent service. Perfect condition until I took it to the Porsche dealership for a going over and they left it outside just b/f a hailstorm. Called about 30 min before to make sure it was under cover, they said it was. It wasn't. Will do PDR to repair and will only cost about $700 to repair. Could have been alot worse, but still up their *** to get them to pay-up. Should have seen their lot, it made me want to cry.

You are 100% correct. Take the hit upfront. How many times have we alll seen someone list their car high, then lower the price every week or so ("bump", "bump", "bumpity bump bump -with lower price"). When the car is priced to high, people figure they are not reasonable, or not "in touch," and that it would be a waste of time or confrontational to contact them. Then people just watch as they lower their price just to see how low it eventually goes. Something pyschological about it, but better to price closer to reality upfront and make quick business of it. Of course, I'd rather see a high price than the guys who list with NO PRICE! That drives me crazy, and out of spite, I don't bother to contact them to ask "how much sir?" Full disclosure - I am currently a buyer, waiting for the colder months on a convertible...

The owner was a friend of one of my customer's at my used bike store. She had not driven her C2 for a while. There it sat with a dead battery, cracked windshield, dinged up front bumper and inop driver's window. Nice otherwise with very recent clutch, oil leak repairs and dealer replaced engine at 35k. I asked her how much she wanted. She asked if I could pay off her loan. I said sure, how much is the payoff? She did not know so we went to her bank downtown. Waited in line for 10 minutes. The payoff was $5046 and she said, meh, just take it. I said ok.
