Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Fuses are all ok, and I've replaced the headlight switch.
Leading evidence: 'Replace headlight switch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). If you are able, you can crawl under the dash and disconnect the ignition switch from the ignition lock.

When I test the dimming with the Durametric they will flash on, so I know they work.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ive got an issue that seems unanswerable. My gauge lights are out, and the usual suspects dont seem to be the problem. Fuses are all ok, and I've replaced the headlight switch. When I test the dimming with the Durametric they will flash on, so I know they work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you are able, you can crawl under the dash and disconnect the ignition switch from the ignition lock. Then there is a spring loaded pin on the underside of the switch. Press in on that pin and that should send power to the cluster.
If that fails to energize cluster then your ignition switch is shot. If that in fact energizes the cluster
then your ignition lock is bad. Normally the ignition key when turned to start the car pushes the pin and when removing key will shut down the cluster, radio, etc. Or just buy a switch if you havent under your ownership.
U can get the wiring diagrams fairly easy on line or from a Bentley manual. I would test the plug going into the back of the cluster dir 12v on the backlight pin and work your way from there. The plastic shells on those plugs get very brittle and have been known to cause poor connections.
The dash light control is built into the cluster. The lamps are LED's so they don't burn out (odometer might be a bulb on .1's).
Do the switches in the center horseshoe light up? Those are fed from the cluster's lighting circuit.
Also if there's any aftermarket stuff like a radio installed disconnect it to test.
Seems my reply wasnt very accurate. Should have re-read your post, but
When posting a question best to state year and model of Porsche you are referring to, ie. is your car a C2 or C4. Automatic or manual, that sort of info.
Pretty sure Mk.1 cars gauges are back lit by bulbs. What controls the bulbs is the question. We know they work via Durametric. So tell the forum what model, year etc. thanks
