Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Normal, on cable throttle bodied M96. The ICV is fully open during cranking and once the engine fires and revs are over a certain threshold indicating engine is running, it is closed to a smaller opening and controlled by the ECU to keep revs at idle rpm (850? +/-50). No experience with eGas M96 but presumably the throttle plate is controlled similarly to the ICV. All in all it would have been possible to calibrate the ECU to not have such an overshoot as BMWs with the same Bosch DME 5.2 or 7.8 of the era don't exhibit this behaviour, so I guess it was done on purpose by Porsche to make starting the car a bit of an event because 'sports car'.

Thank you for your response.
The high revs are also to help ensure the oil pump is primed. Most engines with the oil pump above the oil level do this.
