Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I sold my 85 Targa about a month ago. The withdraw was hell but I picked up my new one yesterday and drove it home 9.5 hours. Black on Black 2000 C4 Cab w/ hard top. All is good with the world. Pictures will follow around Sunday once I get it washed. I will also post the specifics in the new 996 price guide thread. I was pretty disappointed when I found out it did not have the owners manual. I am not quite sure how that happens. I have never lost one for any car I have ever owned and they always go with the car. Does anyone have a digital copy I could get? I saw one listed in an old thread but the link is returning a 404. I looked at buying one and used ones are going for a couple hundred $ on #e-Bay. (It is probably mine!) Also, I don't have the tool to take off the hard top. I heard it was just a hex wrench. Does anyone know the size? Here are two pictures pre-purchase:

Car looks great! Am a little concerned about the dealer.....

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Mike, Pete, and Ivangene! Pete, I am right with you. I wanted to buy from another Porsche guy but did not see what I wanted for the $ I had. I got a lot less for my 85 Targa then I thought I would and I did not want to take out a car note. All in all this car came out with a pretty good PPI and he did all right by me reducing the price to cover what needs done. Peter

POST 6Original post

Welcome to Rennlist with your new '00 cab, looks nice. Curious, how many miles, and did you go to Penn State?

POST 7Original post

PSUBOY, you can get the digital copy of the manual from Renntech.org but you have to be a contributing member - which is invaluable

POST 8Original post

I bought my 2003 C2 Cab last month and it did not have the manual either. It was expensive, but I found one on ebay for $100 and it was in perfect condition and came with the leather-looking case. Enjoy your new ride! Ditto on renntech.org. It blew me away how much usable info was on the site. Well worth becoming a "contributing" member.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Barn996, thanks. It has 110K miles. (I was looking for a car with about 80K on it. But 110 in 11 years is only 10K per year so it has been a daily driver). It had all maintenance through 90 K done at the dealer. It was at a good price for the mileage and then I got further discounts for the issues I need to fix that were uncovered in the inspection. I did go to Penn State. In fact I can see Beaver Stadium from my office window when the leaves are off the trees! I graduated in Meteorology in 87. How about you? Roadsession, I just joined but am not sure I am a contributing member yet.

POST 10Original post

Welcome to Rennlist! nice cab.. Hope it was not part of the "Back lot sale"

POST 13Original post

you said a couple things popped up on the PPI.... like?

You have to pay to be a contributing member, but you'll notice most everyone there is, because it's so worth it

POST 15Original post

You must have had a blast driving it for 9-1/2 hours first day!! How do you feel it compares to your old one!? Welcome to the 996 site! Pete

POST 17Original post

Nice drive to get to know a nice car! Did you check the center console G-box for the top tool? Did 2000 get a glove box in front of the passenger, or was that later? If no G box then the manual would haver been in the wire holder under the steering wheel. It is a tight fit so some just leave it out of the car. Did you check under/around the seats for the manual? Someone else just found theirs after having the car for a couple months. It was tucked in next to the passenger's seat. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-surprise.html

My 'older' brother graduated in '71 and I visited PSU a few times in high school(in the late 60s), but I can't remember much due to the prevailng partying.

POST 19Original post

also if the 00' is like the 99' the tool kit is nestled inside the spare tire - check there for stuff... good point on the manual might be under steering wheel. sorry man but those pics look like the ArmorAll guy had a hay day in there.. make sure and get some good cleaning supplies and put the right stuff on the leather also- how long did you have the 87' and why are you so slow at reply - HURRY UP ALREADY just kiddin man

POST 20Original post

Congrats on your new addition. Ride in Good Health.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks johonole! I have checked all the suggested spots. This is why you don't buy foam a dealer. Ivangene, it looks like it sat for a while. The tires are shot, the boots on the front axels are cracked, and the front breaks need done. Rear breaks ok but will need done soon. And I will need a new battery before winter sets in. He knocked 3k off for me ( because I am anise guy I guess ). My 85 targa is greatly missed. It was not as luxurious as this one. But that was part of the lure. It felt more like a track race car and this one feels like, IMHO, a luxury high end sports car. I put a lot of sweat equity, backed with cash, to make the Targa a nice car. I think the big difference is with the 911 it translates everything back to you and, once you get enough experience, you know where the edge is and can push it there with confidence. The 996 is far more refined and it seems like the limits are greater. But, at least right now i am not comfortable finding the edge. Two last things, my wife would kill me if I kept both. And, I can't stop smiling and peeking at my car in the garage. Oh yea, one last item...it is in dire need of leather care. Good eye, he armoralled the he11 out of it.

POST 22Original post

Congrats on the car. How did you get so lucky with the 4 spoke steering wheel? You got the ho-hum shift ****/wheels/and white face gauges but lucked out with the 4 spoke wheel.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea, shame it was not the 3 spoke wheel. But I am so happy with my car it does not bother me at all.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like this car better every time I drive it. I should have done this a few years ago but I just did not want to part with my 911. I washed and waxed the car on Sunday. (I need to resize the pics...getting errors uploading them.) I found a few things I did not notice before...missing a lug bolt, a few scratches and three small dings But in general the outside is in outstanding shape. The passengers door window sounds like it may be going. The window does not drop when you open the door. The hard top and soft top work great. The plastic rear window is a little milky on the softtop. Is there a fix for this other than a new window? I found out yesterday that the soft roof does not leak. I have some work to do on the inside. There are a few missing plastic pieces I need to buy and the leather needs cleaned and conditioned especially on the seats and the shift cover. I think I can hear it saying feeeeeeed me. The horn does not work. Funny thing, I keep on pulling business cards from Porsche shops out of the steering wheel cover. I think this may be the issue or it may be preventing it from not shutting off. The front axle boots are cracked and need replaced. I need the front breaks done. The rear breaks are not far behind. I need all fluids changed. I have an appt. to get this done on the 18th. I need to get new tires also. Other than that it is in really good shape.

POST 25Original post

Congratulations on your new Porsche. Novus makes several grades of plastic cleaners, although I am not sure if this will remove the milky appearance. They also make a headlight restoration product.

POST 26Original post

I hate it when they put shiny stuff on the interior. Nice Car though. The dealer does look a little ghetto. I see they are having a Back Lot Sale though. Sweet!
