Next is to replace my serpentine belt, coolant tank(haven't ordered it yet), mount my 4 snow tires, replace the fuel filter, and maybe try to tackle the AOS.

After 6k miles since my last oil and filter change, I decided to start on my list of things to do to my '99 Porsche before the cold weather sets in, and do the easiest first, with a new filter and synthetic oil, and crush washer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After 6k miles since my last oil and filter change, I decided to start on my list of things to do to my '99 Porsche before the cold weather sets in, and do the easiest first, with a new filter and synthetic oil, and crush washer. Took under an hour and that was only prolonged by the time it takes to drain all the old oil out. Next is to replace my serpentine belt, coolant tank(haven't ordered it yet), mount my 4 snow tires, replace the fuel filter, and maybe try to tackle the AOS. I couldn't resist taking my 996 for a short ride(it was 70F out this afternoon) after the oil change, it was as if my Porsche was happy again because I was spending some quality time together, sunroof wide open and wndows down, no radio on, and the perfect sound of the FisterDs emanating from the back. Any way, guess I should get back in the garage and conplete some more items on my list.

POST 2Original post

I thought the fuel filter was lifetime? nice - I cheated and took mine into the shop and changed the oil on the lift I have to admit, it was pretty easy and my car seemed to run better after I have the speedometer out right now and it is in California for repairs. coming into work the cops had several spped traps set up and I was a nervous puppy. saw 3 people get pulled over - all right in front of me.... as the cops pulled onto the highway and flipped the lights on I was p!ssin my pants since I had not accurate speed indication... just seat of the pants... fixed my AUX heater fan last week and have a couple other things to do as well... I agrree.. a nice drive with the roof open and no radio is good for the soul !!

POST 3Original post

That sucks that you have to "get ready for winter". My idea of getting ready for winter is switching out my flip flops for boots, lol. I gotta say it's a lot easier to drive these cars in shoes than in flip flops! LOL But seriously, I do hear that these cars are great in the snow. My friend in Alaska says there are a ton of them up there.

I can actually drive ok in flip flops, which is a good thing, because I wear them practically 9+ months of the year But shoes are definitely easier, no chance of getting eaten by my clutch pedal, lol.

Fuel filter change is recommended every 60K miles. Mine was crazy gunky at 70K miles...

POST 11Original post

Barn996/Steve: Say it ain't so....tonight we expect our first real frost but not Winter, no, no no, not yet, please! Had my baby out today for a run to an October fest. Almost a great day with the fister's etc, then the guy in front of me threw up a chunk of concrete, WHAM! left front tire and left rear dead-on, no place to go and couldn't swerve, don't see any damage to the rim, yet, tomorrow will take it of the car and look.....definately a wobble.....I think I might have trashed the tire..if it is the case, then I might have to think about early winterization..........no, no, not yet, please this is the time of year to go cruisin' button up, heater on, windows, down, ride through the mountain twisties.......I hope my season hasn't had a pre-mature...........well no gonna go there, not yet.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Too bad. Get the wheel/tire fixed or replaced and keep driving...the cold doesn't hurt.

POST 13Original post

I'm not going to lie, it does suck having to put toys away for the winter. The only good thing is that in the spring we get to fall in love all over again. It's a shame because driving a RWD car in the snow with snow tires is such a blast. What a great way to work on your car handling skills. But having said that, I'm not going to put snow tires on the C2 this year. We get enough snow free days around here where I can take her out occasionaly. For my driving sideways, drifting, grinning from ear-to-ear-fun in the snow, I'll have to make do with the SLK.
