Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im thinking about selling one of my 911's and picking up this local 1999 Carrera 4 hard top CAB with Tip Tronic and 64,000 miles. I haven't driven the car yet. It's mainly for my wife as a weekender. I already know the seller said the compressor does not work. Im going to get a PPI from a Porsche dealer if the thing looks worthy. What are the main trouble areas to focus on? It is offered by a used car dealer, asking $ 23,900 (less repairs) Thank you, in advance!

POST 2Original post

Given that you live in the deep south (Mississippi), the value/importance of the 4 represents little value for the typical Porsche buyer there. Is there any chance that your wife might learn how to drive a stick shift car? If so, that would be a win/win for you both. It's a shame to drain the fun out of the car with a Tiptronic transmission. I know....I know.....there's no way she'll drive anything other than an automatic. So that you're fully informed, get an estimate on fixing the air-conditioner - it can be a very expensive repair. Good luck in making your decision.

POST 3Original post

Trouble spots? Well, you can search this forum for the old IMS/RMS/MKI Engine issues. You could spend days evaluating this. 99 vs 00. MKI vs MkII. Etc. I recommend starting with this brief write-up from Excellence (pricing guide and trouble spots): http://www.excellence-mag.com/resour...ide/1041874889 The price seems like a fair starting price, from the limited info given above, IMO, except I would deduct $ for $ the compressor issue - assuming you decide after researching that you do indeed want a "99" cab. Search this 996 site for "RMS" and "IMS" issues.
