I just installed a set of these "Lobster Claws" on my 2001 C4.

I'm using the wheel offset calculator at 1010tires.com, but I'd like someone to "check my work".

I know some people like to run 7mm spacers on the front even with the stock wheels just because it fills out the fender better.

I'm planning on using 235/35s on the front and 295/30s on the rears.

If you add the spacers up front and want to go back to the 18" wheels, you can either A) leave the spacers on the car and use the longer bolts, or B) remove the spacers and use the original OEM bolts.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can someone tell me if these wheels will fit my car? They're the 19" Carrera S wheels from the 997S cars, AKA as the "lobster claws".
19x8 fronts are et57
19x11 rears are et67
Sorry, but I'm absolutely horrible at figuring wheel fitment out. If someone knows, I'd much appreciate it. I'm using the wheel offset calculator at 1010tires.com, but I'd like someone to "check my work". Thanks!
I just installed a set of these "Lobster Claws" on my 2001 C4. Those are the correct offsets to have......57 and 67. The rears from a Carrera 4S will not work since they have an offset of 51.
Installing these on a C2 is straightforward with no problems. Installing on my C4 had a bit of a problem with the fronts..........the tires were rubbing the bottom part of the struts. A skinnier and/or lower profile tire will probably take care of the problem. Or, you can use a pair of 5mm spacer plates, which is exactly what I did. The rears bolted up fine with no clearance issues.
If you add 7mm spacers on the front wheels, you will have the exact fitment of the 18" x 8" with 50mm offset you currently have. The rear wheels will extend by 12mm compared to the 18" x 10" with a 65mm offset. They will look more agressive, but you should not have any rubbing issues.
After you get them installed, post pics..... or it never happened!
Ah, that's what's on the wheels I was looking at.
Well, I'm going to have to do something, but I'm not sure it's going to be these wheels. Pics will happen, Tim.
I'm going the "wrong" direction here but how about this setup:
front: 19x8.55, 50mm offset
rear: 19x11.5, 67mm offset
Anyone have any experience with a size like this? I know the rears are pretty wide but I absolutely love the wheels and the price is right.
The fronts would be OK, like having 6mm spacers on your current wheels.
The rears may be too agressive. It would be like like adding a 17mm spacer to your current wheels and they would extend to even with if not past the outside of the fender well. However, because of the extra width, you will have 21mm LESS interior clearence, which has a high probability of rubbing in the inside of the wheel well.
While they "could" be OK, I would
not
get these wheels.
997 C2/C2S wheels work fine on a narrow body 996. They are the right offsets with no clearance issues.
There is an easy solution for a C4S to use these wheels. Just get 15mm wheels spacers and longer bolts then they will be spaced perfectly.
Don't those 997 wheels have a 57mm offset in the front and a 67mm offset in the rear? Won't they require a 7mm spacer in the front? Any spacers required in the back?
No. 7mm is only about 1/4". Only 1/4" is not even noticeable when you look at the car. You have a lot of room on the inside in the front, so there are no rubbing issues. No spacers required for the back either. Remember that the stock offset for the 18x10 996 rears is 65mm. The 997 S rears fit perfectly.
OK, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some 19" Sport Designs with the same offset as in the first post:
Front: 19x8 ET57
Rear: 19x11 ET67
I'm planning on using 235/35s on the front and 295/30s on the rears. I've done a lot of reading about this and half the crowd says that it might rub in the front and the other half says it's no problem--apparently the suspension is slightly different on the C4 cars and there could be a problem.
Here's my last question: I know I can just add 7mm spacers to the front to fix my problem, but then I'll need to add spacers and longer wheel studs. What happens when I want to put my OEM 18" wheels back on the car for the winter? Won't those wheel studs be too long? What's the solution for this?
If you add the spacers up front and want to go back to the 18" wheels, you can either A) leave the spacers on the car and use the longer bolts, or B) remove the spacers and use the original OEM bolts.
It's your choice.
Doh! I never even thought of just leaving the spacers on. I know some people like to run 7mm spacers on the front even with the stock wheels just because it fills out the fender better.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious to me, Tim. Your reward will be pictures if I ever get this little project done!
I guess I must be in a very kind mood today!
I did get the impression that you hadn't thought about just leaving the splacers on the car. Initially, I wanted to say something like "Hey dip sh*t, just leave the @#$%^&* spacers on the car!" but I thought better of it and decided to give you two choices and still deliver the message, but in a slightly more subtle manner.
BTW, I have yet to find a subject that the phrase @#$%^&* will not work with!
Of course, I am just kidding about the "dip sh*t" part.......... well, mostly kidding!
^^ Ha...that's perfectly fair. To be honest, I think I finally mastered wheel offsets by reading your (and Ray S's) relentless (but appreciated) posts on the subject.
OK, I think I have a final plan on my new wheels and I'm going to go with the following:
Front: 19" Sport Design...ET57...15mm spacer...235/35/19 tire
Rear: 19" Sport Design...ET67...no spacer...295/30/19 or 305/25/19 tire
If I install 15mm spacers on my front wheels, I understand that it will push them out to approximately the same offset as a 996 GT3 wheel would. Would I have to take the 15mm spacers off to install my stock 18" ET50 turbo twists for the winter, or will they be OK pushed out the extra 15mm?
Anyone see any other problems with this fitment? I have the stock C4 suspension and I think the rears will fit just fine and the fronts will fit with the spacers. Several people have mentioned that the C4 has a different fitment in the front due to different suspension components than the C2, so I think I definitely need the spacers.
Thanks!
