Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I want to say 200 actuations is the number, somebody who's more bored than I can shed more light on the topic, but the idea is occasionally use your "spare" key.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a key on eBay and need to set it up for my car.

POST 2Original post

No, and the key must have the white tag on it with the keys programming number. It's on the white tag.

POST 3Original post

If you don't have the white tag the dealer can't program it.

POST 4Original post

an indie w the right equipment can program it also.

POST 6Original post

We need a database of indys who can program keys.

POST 9Original post

Nice... So though in theory an indy with the right equipment could program it, -given the code tag- I have yet to see an independent shop that can.

POST 10Original post

Anybody know of an indy that can do the job??

POST 11Original post

I do not know of any, I guess they need a PST2? Try and convince your dealer to change you a half hour labor instead of the hour they charge for a 10 minute job. I was able to after a little arguing.

POST 12Original post

Yes, my Indy in Jacksonville can program keys.

Kahlers in Dublin, Ca did mine.

POST 14Original post

Stead in Walnut Creek did all 3 of mine for $50

POST 15Original post

Sunset in Oregon quoted me 1 hour to "re-introduce" my key fob to the car. I will be keeping that key as my back-up until the other fob stops working.

POST 16Original post

autoengineering in MA can program keys and control units etc...

POST 17Original post

I guess some of you are luckier than I, here in Raleigh/Cary NC... Anyway, to a poster above, if a key goes unused while another is used to lock/unlock the car, after enough cycles, the unused key will become out of synch with the car, and will no longer work. I want to say 200 actuations is the number, somebody who's more bored than I can shed more light on the topic, but the idea is occasionally use your "spare" key.
