I contacted the owner, made the deal, off ebay ( the auction ended by the time I was really ready to write the check) and ended up with a nice 99 Aero.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My wife got her Boxster in '02. I loved driving it because it was so much fun, especially with the top down. It is also a great looking car and it didn't hurt that it happened to be my all time favorite marquis. Anyway, I'd always beg her to drive it, she'd complain but usually comply with my request. See, I had an F150, a Jeep, a Buell, a GSXR, a bunch of Harleys, a Honda...you get the idea. So, after consistantly mooching her toy and actually driving it more often than she did, she finally put her foot down, like wives do, and emphatically demanded that I get my own. This made me excited to no end as the toy scales were already much more heavily weighted on my end. I looked and looked, and since I was in no hurry, I could spec my car with what was important to me and find the perfect match. I studied all the options available and drew up several pretend special order sheets as if I was ordering the car brand new, as we did for a Boxster. This is before my wife found a like new one that she test drove, then replied, "I want this car". So the Glacier White tip over Metropol Blue leather and top with 7800 miles occupied the spot in the garage that formerly belonged to her Corvette. Back to my list of must haves. Arctic Silver would be the color of choice after much thought and weighing the pros and cons of every color available. Silver won, actually by quite a great margin over Glacier White that came in a strong second. Silver looks clean even when it's dirty. I don't wash cars because I think it's fun and engaging. Water spots and swirls can only be seen in certain in certain light, and then when looking at a certain angle. Silver has always been the color of choice for vintage racing cars with Teutonic blood lines, ie. NSU, Auto Union, Mercedes, and Porsche. Silver is neutral and allows the shape to become the focal point, rather than the color. Read this interesting article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._racing_colors If you love motorcycles, like I do, you love the outside and being in the wind. Moving in the wind is like flying. A dimention is added of unobstructed views above, while feeling and smelling the air. A cab is designed as a car without a roof and made to de driven as such. For security and if protection is needed from rain, snow or hot sun a folding top is provided. My only consideration for a coupe would be for competition because of added rigidity and slightly less weight. Having raced Superbikes for years, even very fast cars seem enemic by comparison. My choice was to be a Cab, and the $5k premium was money very well spent. Now, what's next to add to the Silver Cab? This is a Porsche, it needs leather, lots of leather. The large leather package added to the full leather option. It's got to be grey leather, black is too hot, and a grey top to match. The monochromatic look will be very cool! And the seats, Sports seats will be fantastic, and while we are there, paint the backs Artic Silver to match the body, paint the console too. Now add a carbon fibre shifter and brake handle, add more leather, like the seat adjustment upper and lower *****, leather visors, leather dash vent louvers, leather steering column, leather gauge surround, cover everything in leather that you can. Trim the inside of the removable hardtop in matching leather as well. This car is special! Make the gauge faces silver too. And for the outside, Litronic lighting with washers, 18" Turbo Twist wheels, Stainless large oval exhaust tips, rear badge delete should do it. And performance wise, traction control, active brake differential, and limited slip will do, add the trip computer, cruise control, and hi-fi sound with a CD player. I found this perfect for me, car in Houston in '03. It was a lease return, very heavily optioned and in near mint condition. It stickered for $95,593.00 which was a lot for a '99 C2. I had a PPI done, secured a deposit over the phone, flew down, drove it home to Salt Lake City. Fast forward 7 years, still the perfect for me car, and it excites me every time I drive it. More: I took 15 months to find what I wanted. I looked at and drove a few 993s and 996 before I made up my mind on the later water cooled car. I also was aware of the later, drive by wire, heavier, more power Mk2 version, but prefered the earlier, lighter, mechanical throttle, limited slip version that shared the headlights with the Boxster and the '96 GT1 racer.

great story! Like you, I still feel like a little kid every time I slide into the drivers seat. I don't think that I'll ever get over that feeling! Pete

POST 4Original post

great story. Just like most of us here, i have dreamed of owning a porsche. I watched the market for about a year here and decided that i needed one. I searched on craigslist and the other car websites. After a while i placed a want ad on craigslist in philadelphia. I almost decided to not buy one at the time after getting bogus overpriced boxster links. A guy was left his boxster from his father after he passed. I saw the pics and we agreed on a price and i had the ppi done. there were a few things that needed to be taken care of, but we negotiated for the repairs and i picked the car up the next day. I loved the car and was still rethinking my purchase since these cars are known for their rms/ims issues, and i am not a risk taker with my purchases. But i am glad i have it and enjoy working on it.

I had to pry the keys from the PO...told him well heres your check....please clean the car out, Im not leaving without it....ussually a good sign of a trouble free car...LOL. After talking a bit to him it was apparent he made some bad real estate deals....hence the sale. Wife pushed him into it from the looks of things.

POST 6Original post

Great story! Basically, been wanting one for years. When I started looking couldnt touch one for under 30K... wasnt going to do it..... Then all of the sudden prices started to fall. in 1.5-2 years I saw these prices drop by 1/2.... They dropped below 20K. Was looking at ebay one night and came across a 99 Aero that just said Buy me please!!!!!!! it was priced at 17K..It was love at first site. The car really did scream BUY ME, help me, feed me, take care of me... No one is taking care of my anymore.... I miss my original owner who treated me like a queen. I need a new home!!!! I swear to god she did. I contacted the owner, made the deal, off ebay ( the auction ended by the time I was really ready to write the check) and ended up with a nice 99 Aero.

POST 7Original post

Like most of you I had been wanting a Porsche for years. I found a nice '99 996 c4 convertible, black with savannah biege interior and decent mileage. During test drive, the salesman, took the wheel and advised me 'This is one way you can drive a Porsche' and proceeded to drive it like a bat outta hell; needless to say I was impressed. When it was my turn to drive I was all smiles. I was sold. I took it home the next day for my 50th Birthday and still smile each time I drive it. That was 2 years ago. Clearly the best car I have ever owned.

POST 8Original post

Okay. I'm old. So, shoot me...wait, not quite yet. My crazy uncle showed up at my parents house with a 356C (slate w/marroon) and said..."go have some fun" Bought a '69 912 in '71. Wired the heat boxes shut in the winter, but she rusted quite quickly. Bought a '69 maroon 911T Targa in 73. Sold it after a couple years and got married, had babies, yada, yada. In '81 I bought a '76 912E and KEPT IT! Bought some additional 944's and sold them. Then a couple of years ago my youngest girl got pregnant between her junior and senior year in callage. OMG! She worked on the 912 w/me and I told her she could have it if she finished and got her degree. She did! I did. How many years did I have a P-car in the garage? For me it was too much. I decided that I wanted a 356....big $$$, even for a Speedster clone. I found a salvage '03 C4S in CA with a dented fender sans bumper cover. Okay! It didn't even cross my mind that there would still be issues with Porsches, RMS, cracked heads, IMS....so I bought it sight unseen. Shipped to a buddy who does body work, who kept it for about 9 months, but did great work. Back tires were bald, someone had gotten to it and stole about anything they could. I am now an expert on 996 Porsche parts on Ebay. I am the lucky dog. No problems, runs strong and EVERYTHING I wanted. The 912 is 200 miles away and safe and warm and in a good home with my daughter and granddaughter. Ima thinking that perhaps a legacy is being passed down. It's a good thing
