Of course I can do that but I want to fix the problem in case whatever is causing the problem is also causing a draw.
Leading evidence: 'also causing a draw' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'also causing a draw' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check wiring' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There was nothing wrong with the P600, it turned out that the yellow block connector on the back of the PCM wasnt properly seated.

I noticed that the radio will stay on after removing the key so I replaced the ignition switch with a ro brand and then replaced my battery.

The radio is OEM, I have not removed it to check the wiring.

The radio is stock and I havent removed it since Ive owned the car but I did remove the HVAC control panel about 6-7 months ago to replace the LCD screen.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, so Ive been having battery issues with my 2000 C4 Cab. I noticed that the radio will stay on after removing the key so I replaced the ignition switch with a ro brand and then replaced my battery. When I remove the key from the ignition my instrument cluster screens stay on for a few minutes but the radio stays on indefinitely. If I lock the door from the outside the screens shut off but the radio still stays on. Im wondering if the problem is the whole shift lock mechanism (where the ignition switch plugs in and the key cylinder.) I dont want to parts cannon the car especially since that piece isnt cheap and isnt easy to replace.
Does the lock make a big clunk when you pull the key out?
If not, then yes the lock mechanism is the problem. Fairly common, the new part is updated (and uses a different electrical switch).
Have you removed the Radio to check that the wiring is OEM ?
Do you have an aftermarket Radio ??
You need to Test for actual Battery Drain also... should be less than 35 milliamps after it has powered all the way down...
Yes, this is certainly the issue. I had the same problem. Replacing this
part
fixed the problem. Also helped with parasitic battery draw as well.

Happened to me once. Radio lost all control. Couldnt turn it off, change the volume, or the radio station. Started the car, shut it off, still nothing. It finally gave up and turned off. Been fine ever since. Some German gremlin must have founds it way out. Never understood why or how it happened.
Because that only masks the real issue, which is that the interlock circuit is still powered.
OP, if you do end up replacing the interlock mechanism the DIY on Pelican Parts will get you most of the way there.

i just removed it last Sunday and installed it this past Sunday. Pelicans video was extremely frustrating and while it does help, you have to do a lot of inferring. Unfortunately, after replacing the steering lock assembly with a new OEM part, the radio still stays on after removing the key and locking the car.
Ok. Should stay on until key is removed. I sure would have guessed key switch. Have you tried sliding the key in and out a few times. The boxster i have, when the radio stayed on. I would have to slide the key in and out until I replaced the switch
I recently had the same issue after fitting Mr12Volt P600 bluetooth streamer. There was nothing wrong with the P600, it turned out that the yellow block connector on the back of the PCM wasnt properly seated. The head unit has a constant supply and it is a CANBus signal that tells the radio the ignition has been switched off, without the signal it stays on. Easy fix if you have the same issue, just make sure the yellow connector is correctly seated in the hard unit.
Thank you, Ill check that. The radio is stock and I havent removed it since Ive owned the car but I did remove the HVAC control panel about 6-7 months ago to replace the LCD screen. Perhaps I caused some wiring to become loose while I was working on it.
I know its been a little while but I did check the yellow connector and that wasnt the problem. I ordered a refurbished CDR220 radio from Becker and that resolved the issue. Thank you for your help
I wonder if thats what happened to mine (post #10). Mine is the stock bose system and while that one event was weird, it hasnt happened since. Probably shouldnt have said that but now I know what to look for if it does rear its head again. Thanks for posting the solution.
