Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Yes they are the same. Manual transmission 993 to manual transmission 996. Tiptronic transmission 993 to Tiptronic transmission 996.

yes but the 996 clockspring wires are shorter than the 993 clockspring

POST 8Original post

goes on the steering wheel I believe to cancel the blinkers when the wheel is rotated past the cogs... (I think)

POST 9Original post

It carries voltage/current to the airbag and steering wheel mounted switches (horn, shift controls...etc) through the rotating axis. It used to be easy when it was just a horn, then they had just a set of spring loaded contacts touching a contact ring.

I don't think so. If you look in PET they are the same part number. Perhaps you have a Tiptronic clock spring and are trying to put it on a manual transmission steering wheel?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Loren, I want to install the 993 steering wheel in a 944 turbo 1988 lol yea part number are the same, but i heard the wires are shorter with the 996 version....

I don't see how they could be different - they are the same part number. There are two clock springs for the 993/996 series steering wheels. One for Tiptronic steering wheel and one for the standard steering wheel. Perhaps one of those is shorter?
