Suspected cause

But if the loud noise is from the window mechanism (cable/rail/motor) when up or down then it's probably the regulator going bad.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My wife e-mailed me and told me, when she puts down the drivers window it squeaks real load, but it seems to work OK, has anybody experienced this before? and what is the fix? Thanks in advance for the info.

POST 2Original post

When you put the window part way down and try to move the window up and down by hand, is there any play? If so, then it's probably the window regulator. Very common issue. Just had my passenger window regulator replaced for ~$450. If you are DIY, then the part is about $180 from online sources.

POST 3Original post

Are you talking about window squeak from the glass on the rubber seals, which may go away with some lube on the rubber or glass. But if the loud noise is from the window mechanism (cable/rail/motor) when up or down then it's probably the regulator going bad. Keep us updated on the real cause...

POST 4Original post

It could be that the rubber gasket is getting a little dried out and is squeaking like a dry squeegy on the glass. I can't remember the product that some use to help remedy this. Maybe someone will chime in here.

POST 5Original post

you let you wife drive it while you're gone ?!?!?!?! haha j/k

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

She only drives it around the block a few times, and thats it!

"It could be that the rubber gasket is getting a little dried out and is squeaking like a dry squeegy on the glass. I can't remember the product that some use to help remedy this. Maybe someone will chime in here." I believe its Gummy pledge which can be bought at any BMW dealer.

Did she complain she was getting too much wheel hop in 1st?
