Cost of the repair estimate is $8179 with $6000 being the decklid.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Leaving work late yesterday, my cell phone starting ringing as I walked out the office front door. It was a fellow employee with a down trodden voice. He says "Pete?" I say "yeh?" He says "We gotta talk". By this time I see the guy in the parking lot on his phone as I'm now 30' away. I hang up and walk over to him. He says he backed into my car with his lifted Chevy Silverado. I look at the car from 10' away and don't notice anything until he hands me the 'C' off of the Carrera emblem. Closer inspection and sure $hit.....nice soft ball size dent that covers the rear lid and the bumper cover. The deck lid paint is cracked and crumpled under...
Not a happy camper but the offender feels horrible. He doesn't think its that bad but I know better. A part of me wants to take his head off. It will get it fixed the right way. But the point I wanted to make was that with all the idiots out there who never want to take responsibility for their actions I found a guy (or he found me) that does. And coming into a holiday weekend I am and truly thankful for people like that. BTW.....there are a lot of RLstr's that fall into that category too.
Happy Turkey Day everybody!
darn and I am all oout of spare deck lids!
sorry to hear Pete, glad at least you know who did it.
so if you get that fixed will it show as an accident on the car history report? You need to consider that thing where you make them pay for devaluing your car too..
shoot, really sorry man -
This is but a minor bump in the road. Like the others suggest, instead of looking at this as a bad thing, think about how nice it is to work with at least one person that's got some character.
Hey Pete, thats sucks.. but as others said at least he fessed up...
I have someone back into my front bumper with a trailer hitch this summer, and just took off...
Still looking at bumper options...
Ya know what --- nobody died!!! Yeah it sucks but in the grand scheme of things, this is a minor "bump in the road". Find the BEST parts and paint/body shop and fix it and then --> move on with life. I quit agonizing over stuff like this a long time ago (still sucks).
If you still feel bad, think of this ---- I have a really good friend who's lived with his girlfriend for 15 years - they are great people. She just lost her battle with cancer (at 45 years old). Think about explaining your "problem" to him right now and then think of your problem again. Not so bad eh? My point is - it can be fixed and "in the grand scheme of things" it's not so bad --- nobody died!
Good luck with the repairs.
FUNNY
Sorry to hear about this "fender bender" Pete, most of us have similar stories to tell so it's always nice to share with those that actually feel your pain, instead of comments like, "that's not so bad" or "it's just a car", gggrrrr... if you've got to explain they wouldn't understand!
It's good the guy stepped up especially cause you see him daily but in the end... I'd probably still make the guy disappear (yes ed, I'm a magician
) still it wouldn't change anything ...
You're handling it like a gentleman but truth be told it always amazes me that out of all the cars parked...it has to be a nice one that gets hit
.
Best of luck!
Sid.
I don't think you inserted it too far
. Like I said in the OP.......I'm thankful for honest folk...there is not enough of that these days. The minor bender does not compare (the little devil on my shoulder is loosing this battle) to ones character.
As for the unlucky soul who lost to cancer....my problem does not even come close....ever.
OH stop already.... of course there are worse things.... but its a bummer and we all feel bad for ya
some of us have been there, some of us dread the possability of it happening... no matter how small, it still hurts about the same. We love you Pete
For F_ _ _ 's sake......
Oh I'm pissed alright......everyone's issue is relative to their own. Some big some not so big. But what I want to know is who took over my computer and posted something so gawd awful sappy...and around a holiday....sheeesh.
Most of the vehicles around here are rusted old pickup trucks! The only thing to worry about around here is the wind. It catches car doors easily leaving a nice door ding.
I have tried taking pics with the BB but the silver the dent is hard to pick up. The damage is at the 'C' and below. The pic doesn't do it justice. But the beer in the picture helped..
Also decided to eat my sorrows away with some ice cream last night. Our Chi-Wienie, Sophie finished it up.
What a bummer. But at least it doesn't affect the driving. In fact, it's a "weight reduction feature".
It'll get repaired, and then you'll have a good story.
Actually its a '_amaro'
I'm not sure how the lid is made...composite with an alum skin? Its got the 'made in France' tag on the underside so I know its real.
That's interesting. I've seen a wrecked aerokit car, and the bottom of the decklid was certainly some sort of a composite. If yours has a 996 part # (which I assume it does since you've got the made in France marking), it has to be factory. Is the aerokit on the factory option list under the trunk lid?
Yes the option is part of the list on the trunk lid. The aero deck lid is around $7K - 8K new. We will see what the damage is next week when I take to body shop.
you must choose wisely - I did my homework and in the end was NOT happy with my shop. The actual body guys were top of the game, the painter A+ but they had a monkey on a buffer who F'd up the entire deal...... and a manager who's face changed AFTER delivery was made... never made it right with me.
Sorry for the misfortune Pete. I have a stock deck lid from a 2000 996 C2 that's been for sale for a while on evilBay. It will of course need paint to match. Email me at

if you have any interest in it.
So today is the 1st day with a 11K mile Chevy Impala rental while the Pcar goes in for surgery...I do have it at a very reputable place and they specialize in the high end cars. I have no idea what the bill will be but its really not my worry except when I want to sell the car...the fix will show up on carfax. The shop and the adjuster agreed to meet and inspect the car at the same time. They plan on taking the rear body apart while everyone is there to see the extent of the damage. Honestly it does not look bad from the outside except for a good spot of cracked paint the size of my hand. So we will see...keep y'all posted.
To Mike- Thanks for the invite on your C2 decklid....I have the areokit..
Well??? I got the call from the insurance company. The rear bumper cover can be repaired......the Aerokit decklid is toast.
Cost of the repair estimate is $8179 with $6000 being the decklid. I'm taking the old decklid home...it will make for a good shelf in the garage. All new stuff is OEM. Hope to have the car back in a week or 2. Now lets just hope the repair is completed the right way.
LOL - $8k for that.... how often do we tell people there are no "its not bad" bumps on these cars and yet they insist things can be fixed on the cheap...I know because my little "scuff" set my car back over $5k - I am glad its getting fixed correctly and not patched up, bet the guyu who did it will crap a load when he hears the cost.....
more impala pics please
This guy is gonna be crappin' alright...when he first told me about the hit he said he has a paint guy that could fix it for a couple hundred bucks. That meant slap some bondo and paint. You are so right Ed...the average Dick (could have said Joe) has no idea what he just hit.
I'll work on the pics...heh heh
Just an update......
Body shop called yesterday. Going on a week and a half and the new shiney parts are somewhere in Lower Slobobia...doesn't matter where that is...just means its not where its supposed to be. Sounds like another 2 weeks of the rental.
Update #2. No car yet
.....the new decklid came in but it was missing the 'gurnie lip'. 2 more weeks....the Impala is losing its sexy
. Me thinks its time for a beverage(s).
I feel your pain. I had some high-end audio equipment on order from the UK and it was one delay after another. 2 weeks for a bank error, another two with delays and misrouting in Europe, then hung up in customs .... more delays due to the Thanksgiving day holiday, and so on. Took 3 months to get what should have taken 6 weeks.
Patience is not my strong suit, but if I have any advice, try to find something else that needs your attention, like maybe a small home improvement project?
HA! Apparently I've been hanging around my wife too much.
So forget what I said about home improvement projects .... bring on the hookers and the cocaine... or go blow some $hit up, that'll take your mind right off your car problems.
awe man Pete - I have to tell ya, I feel your pain
this is where you have to stay the course - when mine came back "not as expected" they told me to wait 30 days for the paint to fully cure, then come back... I got it in writing. So I did, and well, i hope yours turns out alright..... I really hate that you have to point it out to them - they are the professionals - then they try to make you think its alright and "normal" and it makes you feel like you are the one who screwed it up -
dude stick to your guns - sorry to hear this, seriouosly I am hoping it turns out alright for you
Yup it blows! This deal isn't costing me anything except for the euphoric feeling of driving a Porsche. Big picture is I can wait for the right job. But next week is it before a can of whoop *** is opened.

On the BRIGHT side......guess who his wheels back yesterday.
For now I told the shop to leave the script off. Opinions?
Didn't have the heart to post this yesterday with Larry's situation in mind. Still sorry man
Yeah, it took 30+ years for me to say...... Ummm this "40 below and I don't give a F****". weather sux!
Living in Calgary, then the UK and Montreal made me realize that the BS taxes and libs is worth the weather!!!!
