Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I prefer stick, even if I get my pants beat off the line.....lets go around a few laps, things will even out over space and time...plus the stick give you something to do other than check your watch for smudges
Leading evidence: 'Check watch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check watch' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm a manual shift sort of guy, and didn't put too much creedence in what two long time P-dealer sales guys said recommending the Tip on a TT.

I'll also imagine you aren't missing much available torque running a PDK.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What a steal!
For those of you who like to *ahem* bash tips...how many of you have actually spent any time in commuter traffic with one as a DD?
Try it, you might be surprised- it sure did for me after 25 years of 911s with manual transmissions. My next non-DD will be a stick, of course!
I have heard that the TT with a tip is still a monster...
Cheers,
Tom
Yes, but the 0-60 times for 997s with PDK are faster than those with stick. Auto trannys are the future.
Whatever you call it, if the car shifts for you, it's an automatic!
Yeah, I'm sorry.. I could not buy a turbo automatic... That would just be wrong. I would be embarrassed to drive it, honestly... and I'm a girl!
I drive my 6spd in SoCal as my daily driver, so you guys need to stop whining! lol
Some cars just don't feel right as Manuals some as Auto's
Personal I think BMW & Merc should give up trying to make manuals there just no good at it.
But then something like a Nissan Micra 1.1 you wouldn't want that in an auto.
Tips and PDK are different animals..... 70% of the new Turbo's sold are PDK (yes, they are yuppy mobiles
). I would drive a PDK in the Boxster/Cayman format... but never a 911.
I do a lot of walking and hiking. On occasion, I get pain in my left (clutch) foot. I was seriously thinking about a manual, but then I got to thinking that I don't want a sore left foot to limit time in my pcar. Or worse, have to sit in the passenger seat and endure the driving style of my better half (note to wife - sorry honey). I opted for the tip, which gives me the best of both worlds. I keep 'er in "M" mode much of the time and have been learning a few additional tips about the tip thanks to RL members. We need to start a thread for posting all the tip tips in one location!!!!
Crap, that proves that it would have been an excellent choice for me. If it can handle all that, it would have had a good shot at surviving being owned by me.
I'm in the market for a 996 Turbo. I've driven 4 different 6 speed cars and love the way the cars pull when finally out of first gear and you can feel the acceleration, until having to let off and shift into 3rd. Then I got the chance to drive a chipped Tip and OMG, no lag from shifting, just nearly instantanious uninterupted power from 10 mph or 65 mph to however fast you want to go. I'm a manual shift sort of guy, and didn't put too much creedence in what two long time P-dealer sales guys said recommending the Tip on a TT. But now it's very clear. I'll only consider a Tip for a 996 Turbo. I, BTW had a 6 speed 996 for 7 years and still have a Boxster Tip going on 9 years.
Nick, you've been pondering eternal
Tip and Sequential are not the same.
Auto does the shifting for you, seqeuntial doesn't. And there are two types that you see commonly. Those with a clutch and those without. Those without are merely called "semi-automatic" transmissions. Again, the driver still has to do the work.
But theres no work in a stick its all in the magic pedal.
Im saying your average Joe may as well have that pedal up his butt for all the good it will do em.
Anticipation can be as much fun and sometimes more so than actual ownership. This can also be true with other pleasurable activities we enjoy. It took me 15 months of looking to find my '99 Cab that I recently sold for $30k with 61k miles. I considered that car to be very special and extraordinary . The guy that bought it must have felt that way as well, as he had it on his Christmas cards.
I'll know it when the right one comes along!
If that ^ is the case, then why the hell don't I feel like I am having fun????
Since I have been "Porschs-less" for 31 months and am always "window shopping," I should be having the time of my life, but I'm not!
The buyer did get an excellent deal. Probably spooky getting into it and I hope there aren't any problems down the road for him.
For PDK concidering F1 and others have gone to paddle or buttom shifting and the PDK is a flash shifting aparatus I'd venture the new turbo's with PDK ar just right. I imagine PDK might have controls to eliminate downshifting too far into an over rev or at least the common shift isn't going to get you dropping from 6th in 3rd. I'll also imagine you aren't missing much available torque running a PDK.
Unfortunately, I am "just looking."
I have been "looking" so long that I have "found" 313 cars (997's) that I would strongly consider buying. Unfortunately, I have watched 276 of them get sold! Sick, huh?
Well, at least I am very familiar with the asking price on 2007+ 997 coupes!
I didnt want a drag strip car when I bought a Porsche...0-60 times dont do much for me....
I prefer stick, even if I get my pants beat off the line.....lets go around a few laps, things will even out over space and time...plus the stick give you something to do other than check your watch for smudges
Tim, I've been watching the prices on 997s for quite a while now, too. It looks like $40k is the new entry price for a base car and S's can be had for $45k+. Is that what you've been seeing, too? Do you know what model you'd like to get eventually?
Here are the general current (January 2011) asking price ranges at Porsche dealerships.
Some cars are CPO, and some are not. There are a few (extremes lower and higher) than these ranges, but about 80% of the cars available would fit in or very near these ranges.
In general, West Coast cars are $3K to $5K higher, depending on the year.

2007 C4S $63K - $68K
2008 C2S $64K - $68K
