Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If your having trouble getting into 1,3,5 then most likely the left cable needs to be adjusted so that it moves up (towards the front of the car).
Leading evidence: 'Adjust so' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'left cable needs' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust so' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It makes a world of difference when driving agressively too, the fast shift make it very 'clean'.

I have been driving standard since 1969, so it's not that I don't know how to change gears,

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So todays project was the B&M SSK. Got the kit from bumperplugs.com, seemed to be the best price around and Eric who runs it is an informative guy.
Really an easy install. The instructions were perfect.
Its awesome. I was using a really good ssk prior on my last car and when I first drove the Porsche I couldnt believe how long the throws were. The short shift travel is just about perfect now. It makes a world of difference when driving agressively too, the fast shift make it very 'clean'.
Few more free days and my modding will be complete
No but when I was in there I realized my current link is in pretty bad shape. I was going to replace with OEM. I dont see much justification in paying a lot more for the link.
Ill have to research more about it.
Time to go change the ignition assembly. Fun weekend! This should be quick though.
Been looking around for a short shift kit for my '99 C2. Looks like some other brands on eBay for well under $100. Is the higher price for the B&M justified? Get what you pay for yeah I know but has anyone bought and had a problem with one of these cheaper ones? That being said, I'll more than likely order the B&M kit from bumperplugs based mostly on the excellent work he has done for me already...just had to get the skinny on the others.
I think the key point to know is that B&M manufactures the SSK for Porsche - so it's the only one that know meets the requirements of the manufacturer.
When you get one you'll see the quality engineering, the metal parts instead of cheap plastic - and you can feel the quality of the engineering.
Wouldn't waste time/money on anything else.
I switched from my B&M with the Eoms link to the 997 shifter with the Evoms. So far I like it better. Not as short, but still significantly shorter than the 996 and much smoother, and 1st is always easy, not the case with my B&M install.
To those that asked about problems..I have none.
I really took my time though once I re-cabled the ssk. Originally when they said mark the cable I wasnt entirely sure what they meant so I marked everything. Then when I initially put it back I was way off and it barely even shifted. I then realized what the marking meant and put it back to stock.
I then played with the positioning and then would shift through all the grears. I put it close back to originaly position but not exactly.
My shifts are perfect.
If you need to go back in and readjust. I dont think you should be having any issues. Its really a matter of making sure those 2 cables are in the right position for the shift. The left cable controls the horizontal position and the right the vertical.
If your having trouble getting into 1,3,5 then most likely the left cable needs to be adjusted so that it moves up (towards the front of the car).
Hope that helps.
lol..yeah its normally that way but this time I went in with a "set plan" and its almost complete
The only thing Im reconsidering is the rims. I really like having OEM and I think the sport design 10's are hot. Sometime I just wish they were 19s though.
But at 18 Ill get better performance and I wont have to spend money for new ones, so who knows.........
1st to second grind a few times, and it drives me crazy!!!!
I have been driving standard since 1969, so it's not that I don't know how to change gears,
or lazy clutch. It is just the synchro (I think) won't let me shift (a touch) faster.
My Mazda RX7, Renault Gordini, Datsun B210, or my Honda CB 900 SS, never had grinding
problems.
My only solution:shift slooow.
So now I am thinking twice before installing a SS.
I believe it will worsen the grind.
