This is not a probability of success.

Next you might need to replace the metals clips holding various plastic trim pieces with the newer plastic clips, as well as adding the special felt tape described in the TSBs

Check to see if the locks are set tight enough--you can rotate the lock nuts with a large (I think 22mm) wrench to bring the top closer to the body)

Have you looked into what it will take to pack the hardtop and how much it would cost to ship using UPS or FedEx?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would like to sell my hardtop, stand and cover. The top is polar silver and has never been used. What is a reasonable price and what do you think is the best way of selling it; perhaps e-bay?
Thanks,
Leoh

Have you looked into what it will take to pack the hardtop and how much it would cost to ship using UPS or FedEx? You might want to consider selling it locally and having the buyer pick it up with his or her 996 cab -- you can help put it on since it is a two person job (without the hoist.)
Best of luck on your sale.
try to sell it locally, goto a swap meet, some porsche club meetings/etc. that way someoen can just come over and pick it up
they are a B*TCH to ship, same applies to the rack. frequnetly damaged in shipping.
If I lived in CO I would buy it from you since I have been in the hunt for one in my trading area. The freight is around $500+ on that item. If you want to know pricing go to ebay, I would say $500 to $800 is reasonable.
Someone wanted $700 to be sold with my car. I didn't take it since I don't really need one in CA. $700 is a good price in my opinion but shipping it would be a pain like everyone said. For the stand & cover, add another couple hundred bucks.
I have seen prices from $ 600 up to $ 3,000. I don't think crating and shipping is a big problem. I have sold all kinds of crazy stuff on ebay (inc. a hardtop for my ex 328i) and it's not as difficult as people make you believe.
The tops have a cheap market on Ebay, but I did sell my hardtop cover on Ebay and got a good return, list your cover and stand on Ebay and try a Forum Classified section for the top.
I purchased a hardtop on ebay after dealer told me would be $3000.00 to order. Cost was $600. Packing and shipping was $400. I thought about driving to get it, but did not have the time. I am glad I didn't. When top arrived I found out that (at least in 04 996's) the rear locking bolts are not installed when the top option is deleted at factory. Parts and labor for bolts $500.00. It took delaler a while to figure out what was needed. Total price was $1,500 for top and car mods -- the same as the credit to the invoice, but half what a special order would have been.
I got mine this week, gee nothing but squeaks and rattles and that was after the dealer adjusted it. Is this common? I guess I was mistaken assuming this would make a car feel like a coupe in winter.
There are some TSBs on this issue--check with renntech.org. I got a used ('00) hardtop for my '04 C4S and there are no rattles or squeaks. Before giving up try the following:
1. Put some silicone or other lubricant along the front and rear rubber edges
2. Check to see if the locks are set tight enough--you can rotate the lock nuts with a large (I think 22mm) wrench to bring the top closer to the body)
3. Next you might need to replace the metals clips holding various plastic trim pieces with the newer plastic clips, as well as adding the special felt tape described in the TSBs
Good luck!
