Suggestion

I couldn't do more than 2 hours in Sport seats so I switched to SixSpeed seats with the Planted seat mounts, using stock seatbelts if I want but I have a roll bar so use a 4 pt harnesses.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anybody elses back getting killed by your Comfort seats? I went as far as to stop by my local upholstery shop. The guy there said hes done a ton of them. I thought maybe the foam was bad. He said theyre all like this. Your foam is fine. Nothing we can really do. (Ive got some small cracking in the leather thought they could handle that as well but the real issue is the seat kills my back) Could never do any kind of long road trip. In fact Im capped at about 1.5hr. Even then at about an hour my lower back is aching and Ive even noticed my butt and legs getting a little numb. Im 511 195. Pretty normal size. Granted Ive got some lower back problems, Im 45. Anyway just wondering if anyone else is feeling the same and if anyone has done anything about it. aside from purchasing a small old-man-orthopaedic pillow to drive around with.

POST 2Original post

Its personal taste, so if you dont prefer them, thats correct for you. The comfort seats are fine for me and are said to historically be the more comfortable and long lasting of the seat styles. I have a back injury and arthritis from a driver who thought they should text while driving and hit us. My wife broke a vertebra and our backs are damaged since.

POST 3Original post

I had them in my 996 C4S and they were comfortable for me, including a cross country drive with no discomfort issues.

POST 4Original post

Im with OP. Early 40s, multiple lower back injuries, and these seats suck - mostly because of no adjustable lumbar support. Seat are slippery, padding is squishy, and bolsters have flattened noticeably after 27 years of service. Im not a fat-***, but maybe the 7 previous owners were . Shoot for a used pair of 997 manual comfort seats. Theyre firm, they gripped me pretty well and werent particularly flat or slippery. For lumbar adjustment youd have to get power seats and figure out wiring, but the information is out there.

POST 5Original post

I've had cars with many adjustments on the seats that I could never get comfortable in. And I've had cars with minimal seat adjustments that fit me like a glove. Before going the new seat route, I would order some lumbar pillows from Amazon $20 to $80 and see if thet helps. It would also give you a better idea of why the seat is uncomfrotable in the first place. I would also try adjust the seat tilt and back tilt a little bit to see if that helps.

POST 6Original post

I find mine to be really comfortable after the centers were reupholstered with alcantara. It's grippier and far nicer than hot leather here in Florida.

POST 7Original post

Can't comment on long term drives w the comfort seats but the little I've been in them they felt better than the sport seats which I could hardly do 30 minutes in without starting to experience discomfort. The euro GT3 buckets are more comfortable than either IMO. Been this way since I got the car at 35

POST 8Original post

Hey, this is a great thread and a good opportunity to gather some related info into one current conversation. I have the comfort seats, as well. They are OK and get more comfortable after a few minutes of use, but I need more support and I need the seat to be lower. I have been looking over the scattered threads in this forum and there seem to be several options for replacement seats that are as high or higher than the stock seats (please correct me everyone where I am incorrectly reflecting from other threads): - 996 sport seats maybe not much better - 997 seats much better - 997 sport seats much better - even seats from newer models will fit (like 991 seats), but have to deal with wiring and they have airbags buried inside them - Braum Racing Seats Elite series...not too expensive, have tilt back and adjustments, work with stock seatbelt, install videos on YouTube - Nogaro Cobra Seats ... similar to Braum - Recaro makes a few models and they all fit Non Reclining bucket seats (racing buckets that can be used if you find them comfortable - Recaro - Sparco - others Does anyone know of a replacement seat with tilting back, that works with stock seat belts, that actually lowers the seat height vs stock seat, and fits into the interior so it can be slid back as needed without interference?

Corbeau RRX with plaid inserts: https://rennlist.com/forums/987-foru...rbeau-rrx.html Very nice in my opinion.

POST 11Original post

My original seat were the manual seats. The webbing broke and they became very uncomfortable. Sitting in a hole. I bought a pair of comfort seats with 30k miles and they've been OK. Comfortable, but not as low as the manual seats. Regardless, I haven't had any body grumbles after long drives, 3-10 hours.

POST 12Original post

I couldn't do more than 2 hours in Sport seats so I switched to SixSpeed seats with the Planted seat mounts, using stock seatbelts if I want but I have a roll bar so use a 4 pt harnesses. I can go all day in them, feel a little lower. I'm 5' 10", 195 lbs on a good day. I even have a spare SS seat to match (long story but short version is 1 of the originals they sent was a bit defective so they gave it to me and sent a replacement) as my office chair and do online training sitting in it for 6 hour classes I teach and never an issue. Oh, and I have some lower back issues. They aren't real leather but are treated as such (leather conditioner) and seem to be holding up well. Lots of people thought I was crazy for dumping the Sport seats but I couldn't be happier. To each his own. Hope you find what works for you. Thanks for all the replys. Really cool to see all these options. In the meantime Ive got that pillow on order smh. Ive got factory heated seats also and wouldnt wanna give that up. That would narrow the field considerably. Personally Id probably go with something OEM and thus the 997 seats I think

POST 14Original post

hmm. I would ignore what your upholster said about the foam being fine. It's 25+ years old, and when I pulled my lower cushion out to replace it I found plenty of deteriorated foam bits under the seat. I just refreshed several bits in this area, I shared the project here from post #152 on. TLDR: Order the OEM foam (not expensive), have an upholsterer fit it to your original seat cover, and consider doing what my upholsterer did which is have an additional soft material padding added for a bit more sofa-like support. These 996 seats are definitely much better with this done. Your seat may also have broken supports or a torn support membrane, that seems to be common especially if the PO was a larger person. Gotta agree on the GT3 Euro Buckets. I have had mine for nearly 20 years and am 61 today. If I am doing a very long drive like from Chicago to Phila to visit family, i add a 1/2 inch thick piece of foam under the back cushion and its a phenomenal long distance drive. No back fatigue what-so-ever because the support is so damn good in the seats.

Sorry, mine is different and is non heated so not the same part #. You can try Gaudin Porsche, their parts dep can find it for you when you provide them your vin. They'll probably have the best pricing too.
