I felt the advise of using painters tape to cover all the plastics, etc, door handles, was well worth it to keep the polish where it belongs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I detailed my 2003 Carrera 4 Cab today for the first time since I purchased it a couple months back. The Basalt Black finish was ok, but had swirl marks and light scratches on the surface. I used Sonus SFX-2 polish and a porter cable and am really pleased with the results. I also waxed the car. The black paint truly looks like a new car! My 996 feels and looks brand new!

POST 3Original post

Looks great - get her out in the light and take some more pics - you will treasure them!

POST 4Original post

Car is gorgeous - nothing prettier than a clean, waxed black cab, especially a metallic black cab.

POST 6Original post

Basalt is the best "black". BTW: speaking of detailing, I noticed that your exhaust tips stick out too far. They should just be a bit further out than the top of the bumper cover. This will also help them not scrape on steep driveways!

POST 7Original post

Beautiful job! Thanks for the posting the brand of the polish too.

POST 8Original post

Nice job. To get the right result, you have to spend more time and more money to do it right.

POST 10Original post

Stunning! You've motivated me in trying to remove my swirl marks. Need to purchase the Porter Cable 7424 asap. Awesome job.

POST 11Original post

damn thats nice, doesn't that make you want to just cover it and never drive it? when i detail my car i feel guilty taking it out the first time...

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thank you fellas. Bluescast - For what it's worth, I was a beginner at polishing, but am extremely pleased with the results. I felt the advise of using painters tape to cover all the plastics, etc, door handles, was well worth it to keep the polish where it belongs. Being in Tucson, I took it out this morning with the top down, drove it to beautiful Sabino Canyon, went for a jog, then drove it back home. It's become a Sunday morning routine, including driving my Carrera across town. thanks again, John

POST 14Original post

John, thanks for the tape tip I will definitely employ your advice. There was another thread here that listed videos on how to apply the various polishes and waxes that will aid me as well. This forum is the gift that keeps on giving. I've decided to attempt this job in March when weather starts warming up around here and I came up with a rather devious plan of buying the Porter Cable and various waxes and polishes for my brothers birthday, it's in March and he loves waxing and shining his cars. Then I'll coax him into doing the P-car for me. haha. Kind of a kill two birds with one stone.

POST 16Original post

Black cars are without doubt the most stunning cars out there, but the problem is that they are tough to maintain because every little flaw is magnified by the finish. If you have the time and inclination to devote to keeping the finish in top shape, there's nothing that can compete. Your car looks great. Congrats.

POST 17Original post

Do you take the rims off to clean them? I'm considering it on mine. Don't know if there's an easier way to get all the dust off a couple times a year.

POST 18Original post

For those of you opting for a PC it's probably not the best option. I just purchased a Ridgid 2611 and it blows the PC away.
