I heard the left hand ignition set up come from the days of the old running start auto races (LeMans start-I believe it's called?).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I give respect to all Porsche owners regardless of style and vintage. Let's keep it positive. We all know what it feels like to press in the clutch and turn that ignition with our left hand as we slide that baby into gear with our right and she purrs to life. That, to me, is automotive poetry.

POST 2Original post

agree 100% the crest on the hood of all Porsches is the same!

POST 3Original post

Do you know why it's on the left? Trivia Question.

POST 5Original post

OK since you answered that question, here's another. Why don't the Germans build TVs. My boss who is a Lexus lover, asked me that question the other day.

POST 6Original post

Mine is a Porsche and it's on the right. So not all of use turn them on with the left hand.

POST 9Original post

Hey guys I didn't know the answer either, but I'm guessing the question has been around for a long time. The answer: because the Germans haven't figured out a way to make TVs leak oil.

POST 10Original post

what do you mean? one of the best tv's out there..LOEWE

POST 11Original post

I believe it had to do with time saved by turning the key, AND putting the car in gear at the same time.

POST 12Original post

I think I saw the add...Germans don't do TV...They do BEER!

POST 13Original post

I heard the left hand ignition set up come from the days of the old running start auto races (LeMans start-I believe it's called?). The driver can access the key more quickly as they enter the cabin.

POST 14Original post

Bingo on left hand ignition. And as for TVs, the LOEWE is spectacular. Of course, like Porsches, it ain't cheap!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't think of anything those damn Germans cannot make. About their TV's they are the best in the business when it comes to CRT, much better resolution than plasma, and their dvd player kicks A$$...

POST 17Original post

C'mon now. It's the next day. What's the punch line?

POST 19Original post

No, not the one about the key. The one about the TV.

POST 20Original post

Okay, another trivia question: Why did the original 911's (until the 993) have the stove-pipe front fenders? Marc

POST 21Original post

OK, if we are on the topic of stupid Porsche trivia answer me this.... what are the paint can lids built into the bottom of the front trunk for? (lift up the carpet to see them or look from underneath)
