2) The RMS is leaking when you look under the car - do that before you drive off - take a torch - check the garage where the car has been parked for oil spots etc etc

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all...
I just pulled 30K service record of the car i am about to get. Serivce was done on 7/11/05 @ 29,581 miles. The car has 34,000 miles right now. It is a 2000 C2 Cab.
One of the items on the record aside from standard 30K mile service is this one:
Customer states engine leaking coolant. Pressure check cooling system found coolant bottle and cap leaking. Replace cooland reservoir bottle and cap.
Sounds harmless. My guess i shouldn't worry much about this one, should I?
Also, PPI is quoted to me at $450 - should i get it done even though i am going to get an extended warranty?
This is an 'typical' failure I'm afraid - had exactly the same on my 99 Boxster - not happened on my 996 yet but I wouldn't be surprised.
Both cap and bottle seem to have design issues - cap leaks and is a simple swap, tank leaks and needs replacement after time - takes some labour hours due to access.
No big deal - don't sweat it.
PPI can be a good idea, perhaps a non dealership specialist would have a better price?
Chris.
thanks dude. know somebody good in south cal? the issue is that i am flying in from San Jose to pickup the car and wont have much time. but with a dealer its easier because the current owner is taking it to the dealer tomorrow get new rear tires installed and detailing done anyways.
but dealer said they wouldn't be able to tell if the car has RMS issues. they just check for oil leaks. i can check for oil leaks myself. so i am not sure what exactly i'd be paying $450 for. to tell me if headlights are not burned out? LOL...
i'll probably save $450 and put it toward getting a better level of extended warranty.

Put the $450 towards the 3rd party warranty - good plan
Dealer is correct - the only ways you can see if the car has RMS issues:
1) The warranty service history shows RMS replacement(s) - you already pulled that so you're good
2) The RMS is leaking when you look under the car - do that before you drive off - take a torch - check the garage where the car has been parked for oil spots etc etc
RMS however can be perfect one day, leaking/weeping the next - no warning is required!
Best to just drive the hell out of the car at every opportunity
Chris.
