$100 short shifter on Ebay

I see a number of short shifter in car styl on Ebay. They are $100 and $109 from two sources. Anybody know anything about them? Pretty low price. I don't know how to paste a link and it was too long to write and type. Sorry. Bill

I bought one a few weeks ago because I could'nt believe the price. Product came quick and in new condition. Only thing missing was the little grease packet and instructions otherwise all the other parts where there. I simply went to B&M's website and downloaded the instructions. Installation was a breeze as I performed the replacement on a Saturday morning and it only took me about 1 hour 30 minutes. User name was 425450 Performance store. No affiliation. That is a B&M unit but something is wrong with the ebay picture. B&M does not use snap rings like in the picture. There is supposed to be 1 set screw, not 2.

That is NOT new but for the price seems great. If it was new it would be in the shrinked wrapped package in the B&M box. Looks new but I would question why it was taken out of the packaging, etc. I am one of those firm believers that if it seems too good to be true it probably is. But with that said, there are exceptions to the rule and this may very well be one. I would verify that it is in fact a B&M shiftyer as well inventory ALL the parts to make sure you are receiving the comlete setup.

What tools did you need? I would really like to install a SSK, but the dealership quoted $500 + installation, so I'm shopping around before I decide. The 996 throw is way too long, especially 4-5.

$500.00 + installation is ridiculous unless you are talking about the OEM ssk. But still, the OEM ssk is made by B&M but with a different linkage if I remember correctly. You can order an in car B&M ssk at Brandywine porsche for 200 bucks plus shipping.

No special tools really needed besides a set of snap ring pliers. The SSK is an easy install for the DIYer. Download the instructiosn off of theB&M website and take your time.

You do need torx head bits or drivers to reove the center console.

No problem we can do it anytime my place is setup for these types of tasks plus I have heat although the high 60's around who needs the heaters.

I'm completely setup for these tasks - but NOT in my garage! Still finishing the house, so the garage is a total mess. You are right about the weather though. It was the OEM one - I was in with the wife getting her some logo clothing so I thought I would ask. Silly me. Do you need to get underneath the car to install? I don't have any ramps or jack stands. When I had someone do the Alta SSK on my Cooper S, you had to remove the heat shield underneath. I didn't see the installation on my M3.

My garage was very similar when I started there was 50-75 years worth of wood stored on home made hanging shelves. Lots of doors, screens and raw wood. I filled up one of the metal trash bins they deliver. Started from scratch it looks like your garage has the same type of problem my garage was about 9ft now it starts at 9ft and scales up to 13 ft. you should have plent of room to hang the top on a hoist.

Strucutrally my garage isn't worth investing in. The bricks are crumbling and the floor has cracks so deep you loose things in them. Seriously considering tearing it down and putting up something double width AND double depth so that there room for a 2 car garage and a workshop with a dividing wall... One of these days ;-) Keith

If you get the "in car" ssk then you dont have to go underneath the car to install. Everything will be done in the car around the center console area.

FYI. I got this and I don't think it is new as stated on the auction but is in fine condition. The actual shifter part IS new and was in shrinkwrap, but the bits and peices are used but in perfect condition. Included were 2 set screws and 1 retaining ring instead of 1 set screw and two retaining pins. When confronted the seller didn't address the issue of used / new, but did very promptly send another clip. Shipping of the original order was incredibly prompt so I think I'm going with "no feedback" rather than zero feedback on ebay. Keith

If this is the same ad I saw a few weeks ago, this shifter is not a B&M unit. I wrote the guy and it is a B&M knockoff. Not that it would be inferior. Just wanted to see some feedback on it like now.

If it's a rippoff it's pretty good. Does the B&M have any distinguishing markings / logos? Keith

I am starting to see these on ebay. B&M does not have any markings/logos. If someone in the San Jose area gets one let me know and I will compare it to a known to be original B&M. Might be interesting to contact B&M....
