Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'll have to check PET to see if there was a cd option.

I started off with a plan to replace the CD holder with a cubby and add a simple iPod interface, but got a bit carried away....

Now it's time for something else, and I have my heart set on getting rid of that eyesore of a tape holder under the head unit.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got my MK1 just over a month ago, and just finished the Fister swap--sounds amazing! Now it's time for something else, and I have my heart set on getting rid of that eyesore of a tape holder under the head unit. I've done a basic search that didn't turn anything up...has anyone gotten rid of this? if so, do you just replace it w/ a hollow din unit for storage or something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
That's a tape holder? I never personally bothered to look at it past the "WTF is that?" glance. But it's nice to know if i do get a 996 that I'll be able to place 4 mix tapes in the dash, while holding my coffee and trying to shift.
My '99 had a CD player (CDR-210) until about 45 minutes after the UPS guy showed up. Now it has a bluetooth gizmo that takes and makes calls, plays music off my phone, announces navigation and makes a delicious pound cake. I'll have CD holders until about 45 seconds after the UPS guy comes back.

First this...
Then this...
Now this...
Love the cubby. Great for sunglasses, phone, all kinds of stuff. It also minimizes the need to open the center console lid which will no doubt snap off one day.
I'll have to check PET to see if there was a cd option. Do both '99 owners have the HiFi option by chance? Wondering if CD came with all HiFi optioned cars...
Pretty sure the standard trim came with tape back then.
My 02 has the tape holder. Original owner spent all sorts of $ on options (no complaint from me) including $700 on remote CD player in frunk but went with the Casstte head unit. Oh well. Guess I'll be able to listen to all those 80s and 90s mix tapes sitting in my basement.
