Actually the special part is that I spent close to 2 years tracking down all OEM individual aero parts used since I didn't want to spend $6k on a new aero kit.

My issue is that when I spoke to the tech doing the work before he started I asked him if he would change the RMS, he said he will check it and he gave me the impression that if it looks good, it is better to leave it undisturbed (though he never quite used those words).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking for estimates so I can be sure I was robbed...thanks!

POST 2Original post

I bet 1/2 hour of book time. At $140 per hour, that's $70 plus the filter.

POST 3Original post

If they charge you ANY labor (unless that's the only thing they did), you got robbed. SRP for the Porsche filter is ~$90.00 (w/ carbon), ~$50 (no carbon).

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok thanks, I don't feel too bad. It was $56 for the cabin filter. It was an indy doing allot of work on a car I just bought. I couldn't even look at the receipt for 2 weeks without feeling sick. I finally went through it today and noticed they charged me twice for a fuel filter ($54 ea). I called and when he pulled the invoice he immediately said they made a mistake and will credit it off but of course it made me suspicious of all the line items. I had the IMS replaced with the LN. Is there anyway to tell if the RMS was replaced? (I am expecting there isn't). The reason I ask is that I told the indy today that I saw no mention of the RMS being changed on the invoice. When they were doing the IMS, I called and asked if they would be changing the RMS, the owner said yes we always change it when we do the IMS. My issue is that when I spoke to the tech doing the work before he started I asked him if he would change the RMS, he said he will check it and he gave me the impression that if it looks good, it is better to leave it undisturbed (though he never quite used those words). Now fast forward to todays fuel filter double shot, the owner thinks that they meant to write RMS seal (and not fuel again on the invoice). I have faith that they did a good job and they have lots of positive reviews on the forums, but I can't help but have some reservations about using them again. I'm not sure I'll ever really know if the RMS was changed.

POST 6Original post

You could've always asked for your old parts back.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 10311235

My dealer replaces this and similar items at no extra charge as part of a service as long as I have the parts in the car and bought them from the dealer. This includes cabin air filter, light bulbs, clutch and a brake switches, plastic under body or trunk panels, front or rear lid struts, blowing the trash out of the radiator ducts, etc. There is a limit. I mean if you have a full set of light bulbs, and a new cabin filter, all lid struts, the dealer/service manager or tech will likely balk. But within reason the techs will do these things like during an oil/filter service. A couple of dozen fresh donuts say once or twice a year helps too. In spite of all the vitriol techs have aimed at them they are only human (oh yes they are!) and like sweet and deep fried foods just like we do.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For clarity, I was just questioning the price of the filter while your car is in for service at the dealer. I paid $56 for the filter itself which seems about right. There was no installation charge.

POST 9Original post

Some owners have more money than sense about $10 for the filter here https://importecautoparts.com/parts/...2%20219%2002/3 and 10 mins of your time here http://www.c-speedr.com/howto/996cab...6cabfilter.php Time for me to once again smash my head against a wall.

POST 10Original post

Hurdi, youre gonna get slammed for that. (But i agree) Dealers love owners like that but not so much owners like us.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 10311845

Great information that doesn't address the original poster's request in any way whatsoever. The question wasn't "how cheaply can I buy a cabin filter." The question was "How much will a dealer charge to change the cabin filter," and you know darn well no dealer is going to price a cabin filter @ $10.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 10311845

Thanks for the tips. Good stuff. Might just change mine for fun for $10.

POST 13Original post

Mahle filter on Pelican is $7.50 + shipping. Mann carbon ~$18. Porsche markup for carbon is crazy .... I think the carbon option on the new car was a $400 adder (for a ~$10 increase in filter cost !). I'm not sure they even supply a tube of vaseline for your $40/$400 adder on the carbon option - just in case you had doubt that you were really being scre*ed ....

POST 15Original post

Impossible! I thought you guys said the 996 was a low cost maintenance DD with low cost parts. Yeah OK.

POST 16Original post

I never replaced the one on the boxster since the top was always down. It didn't make sense to replace it. This one i'll replace since i'll use more year round.

POST 18Original post

Weren't you just stroking Hurdi and yourself for your amazing abilities to purchase parts for next to nothing and replace them yourselves?

POST 20Original post

Since we're fixing things for each other...

POST 21Original post

As much as you would like to try and turn this thread into another DIY'er bashfest, the real point should be that if your going to own a 996 you would be wise to educate yourself about the model to prevent being a vicitm of a Dealer or Indy shops unscrupulous practices. People that have no facts on which to base their opinions usually result to insults, name calling, and personal attacks. Once again, Hurdi, me , and others are the dummies because we dare to disagree, right?

POST 22Original post

The point of the thread was to answer the OP's question, which was done with labor rates and the list price for OEM parts, which is what a dealer is going to install. You and Hurdi felt it necessary to essentially suggest that only idiots pay list price for a part, and then continued on by contradicting this point by bringing up the "these cars are cheap to maintain" thread. So which is it, KrazyK? Are you right because these cars are so expensive to maintain, or are you right because you and Hurdigurdiman are so skilled at finding and installing incredibly inexpensive parts?

POST 23Original post

^^^^ It's a wash for KK since he does the labor himself but changes oil every 200 miles or 1 month, whichever comes first. As for the cabin filter, I believe it's everytime he waxes his undriven and garaged car every 4 or so car washes.

POST 24Original post

On a totally new tangent, alpine, your car is teh sex. Rowr.

Thanks, nothing special. Just a factory mk1 aero kitted car. Actually the special part is that I spent close to 2 years tracking down all OEM individual aero parts used since I didn't want to spend $6k on a new aero kit.

POST 26Original post

As much as I enjoy your abuse, I must admit that both of your MKI's look fantastic. I especially like the wing on SD's. It looks like a GT3 wing and the early GT3's were awesome looking.

POST 27Original post

I didn't realize sd_boxster had the same car as me minus the rear MK2 GT3 wing since I normally have avatars and signatures turned off. LOL KK, I gotta be able to pick on someone since I didn't have a brother growing up and who else except someone that is certifiably KRAZY. Thanks for the compliment but your car should outlast all of ours in both mechanicals and looks. I think you know why...

Can I have some love too?

POST 29Original post

Pete, you are one of the members that has inspired me to get the MK1 aero kit in the first place.

Heh. Thanks. I'm an argumentative *****, so hopefully you'll consider that when you read my posts.

POST 33Original post

I dont know why but the MKI`s look awesome with aero kits compared to the MKII's. Theres got to be a way to convert the MKI into an early GT3. I know the engines different but you could copy the suspension and body. Yes, you too SP. Awesome MKI.

POST 34Original post

KK- what ever you are taking, tell you're Dr it's the right combo.... I noticed as for me, am on not taking anything - including st!t from Pete about my GT2 parts --- OK well..maybe a little

POST 35Original post

Quotes source post: 10315268

But.......I just bought some Gt2 brake ducts. Hope they fit. Also picked up some GT3 frt / rear sways. Looking for the taretts too. Looks like the rear sway is the same as on my X74 (ROW M030 sways) but the current one is not adjustable.
