Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Saw this elsewhere, thought, hmmm, all can chime into help pass away salty/crusty road doldrems until maybe Spring gets here... (and maybe a few good laughts, too)...think we can hit 100+ ways??????
So, I'll start:
1. you wake up and go check the garage each morning to make sure she is still "sleeping" and everything is okay.
2. you open the car door to make sure the trickle charger light still works properly
3. (for those of you still driving, perhaps), you park in the "boonies" so no one dings the doors.
4. you wipe down the car/get rid of the brake dust.......wash the car ...well, you know.....
5. You look over your shoulder, when parked, to take a peek back at her and smile>>>>>>
Okay here goes;
This, I hope will be interesting and a good read!? Who's next up>>>>>>>>>>>>>?
6. Driving a few extra miles on cold winter days to get the engine up to operating temperature.
My drive to work is only 2.5 miles, so the car doesn't warm up properly. I have to drive around every now and then to warm things up!
10. Your Porsche gets the "best" parking spot in your garage/driveway - sometimes all by itself, despite the other cars you also own.
11. Your Porsche has a name (Big Red). All the other cars in the driveway are just called by the manufacturer or body style (the Honda, the truck, the wagon...).
12. Have one last look at here in the garage before you head of to bed
13. love pats on the center console.
14. put your bike on top, then drive around for an hour or two to get some exercise.
12. You always park in the end stall, squeezed to the outside edge (and you know,
you know
, that when you come back, some big truck will invariably be parked next to you.)
17) As you walk towards her at the end of a day to go home, you feel this silly grin forming on your face as soon as you see her sitting there. (Even after all these years of owning her that grin always happens!!!!)
Pete
22. Your significant other proclaims that "you love your car more than anything else."
23. You listen
much
more closely to your car for signs of dissatisfaction or problems than you do to your significant other. [Browsing Rennlist: "Did you say something honey?"]
Most of these are true, ha ha I'll admit it I do the same at work too
Another one that takes the cake is being obsessed towards your Porsche is putting on a car cover at work or at the Mall.
Your Alfa Romeo engine seizes and your first thought is .. that's going to mean I have less money to spend on the 996. (Oh and your still reading Porsche forums rather than shopping for a replacement car for the wife).
21: If you hear an abnormal rattle you rush right away to your indie - the doctor appointment for high blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythm can wait ...........
22: You constantly check the long range weather forecasts plotting and planning for dry and above freezing days so you can get your winter "fix"
I think I see one tomorrow
All our girlfriends and wives are shallow and like us just for our cars. They want to find a man with paper. Sorry, mine's for spending money on cars and parts - you can buy Sephora stuff with your money.
Wait what?
When the dealer calls to tell you they don't have the part and had to order it you say "oh man, how long will it take? I miss this car more than my wife" - and the wife hears every word and still reminds you of it four years later. True.
After sleeping in on a weekend morning and grabbing the first cup of coffee the kid tells the wife "Mom, Dad's up late cause when I got up for a drink last night he was in the garage polishing the blue one and it was like 1:00 in the morning" Wife says " what? you got of bed to polish a car" uh yeah, I couldn't sleep and Porsches are therapeutic. Also True
26. When your wife asks you to run an errand to the grocery store, mall, shoe store, restaurant, church, city hall, Costco, Walmart, etc., etc., you're on it and out the door!
28. You know every item of technical trivia about your 996, maybe even some part numbers--yet you can't remember your family's birthdays or wife's wedding anniversary.
Great thread!

thats a real shame
On the flipside - for the years that I waited for the someday I'll own another to arrive and while waiting I had three kids. I also had a picture of my white 1968 911 on display. One day two of my kids said "Gee dad, I bet you loved that car and you must really miss it" my honest answer was "yes, I loved that car and I sure do miss it, but you guys are my Porsche now". And then someday came, and then another day came, and now the kids get to pick which one we will drive. All good in the end.
Glad I live in the South. Beautiful morning, so I went for a spirited drive with the top down. Came home and pampered it a bit with a wash, detailed the interior, cleaned and treated the leather, water proofed the top, hit the paint with a clay bar, and finished it off with a good coat of wax.
Sure looks perty and ready for next weekend.
Sure sign
- you spend more time cleaning rather than driving it
- you assess the parking situation at every destination where you need to park your Porsche. If things don't look that great (such as supermarket), use the bimmer.
rough count, and all are good, I think we are somewhere about 40???? Keep them coming......kind of interesting to see I'm not the only one........who...........
47. You are so exited to post on this topic that you can't count
(hope that I got this number right)
48. You have 101 explanation's for "It's not the middle age thing"
I have an explanation for the middle-age thing. I was waiting for the boys to get out of the house, and to be sure I could afford it with no compromises.
"If youth but knew. If age but could." LOL!
The idea came from MTV Jersey shore, that one character Pauly D has a giagantic Cadilac logo on the side of his torso.

Someone beat me to it.
50. You always have your individually hand picked best washing accessories hidden away from your brother, father and anybody else that decides to come along to wash his car at your house. And you always leave the used up washing mitten, cheap car wash laying around to be spotted first so that other parties wont be looking around for the "better" stuff
51. Your gas mileage seems to be much worse than it really is, but that can be easily explained by the endless loops you are compelled to make in every parking lot you visit as you search for the "perfect spot"*
*
perfect spot
=unusually oversized end space with a curb on one side that you can park 2" away from that is located at least 100 yards from the store entrance and a minimum of 10 parking spaces from the nearest parked car. Under a tree is preferred in the summer as long as a) the tree is not currently shedding leaves, b) the tree is not a sap producing variety, c) the tree does not appear to be home to any birds. Alternately, the open space directly next to the handicap spaces are also coveted provided there is a large enough buffer between you and the handicapped space AND there is more than one handicapped space available so you can be reasonably assured that no one will park in the handicap space located right next to you.
Speaking of this, yesterday, found the perfect spot, only to return to my car, and find a large 3/4 ton truck, with a drop hitch, 4" away from my front bumper!!! I took a photo of his vehicle just to be safe. There is no way he could have been so close, (with out touching) without a "spotter". Some of these rednecks do this on purpose, just to tick us off.
OK, there.
Backup sensors. I do it all the time. Not to tick off Porsche owners, but because it is easier to back a large truck into a parking space, and then get out again in a crowded lot.
Not to be contentious (especially on Christmas Eve) But I have an F-150, with back up sensors. I am not anti SUV, always been into 4-wheeling, etc., but even with my sensors, and with a large drop hitch, it is hard to get that close to someone elses car. If you saw the lot, and the other open spaces you would agree. An open lot with no parking stops, plenty of options.
Anyway, we are all obsessed with our P-Cars. Not to sermonize, but speaking for myself, it is easy to become over-obsessed with the car. There are more important things in life. Especially as we celebrate Christ's birth, and what that means for those who receive the gift.
Sermon over-
Back to obsession.
Merry Christmas to all!
You have spent the time to suggest/show your girlfriend/wife how to adjust the seat for optimum comfort so she can endure those "longer than you would drive in a normal car" trips. I've even got out walked over to the passenger side and did all the adjustment for her so she was nice and cozy.
21) Why is it you're always late for work when you drive the P-Car and you're right on time with the Honda, even though you always leave home at the same time. Also, it's 20 miles further to work in the P-Car.
You search the walmart car park for the single spot between the cart return and the kerb with the tree on it. For shade and so no other car can park next to yours. Always a bit nervy of the one in front or behind you but nothing can touch you from the sides. Always scared of some idiot parked next to you opening their door too far and banging your door.
When waiting to get your baby home for the first time you spend HOURS figuring out how to re-arrange the garage best. Measuring the 3rd garage space, where will be best for the least possibility of door dings, can 3 cars really fit (maybe wife's car needs to be out front!?), but what about the kids trying to ride their bikes out of the garage next to THE car, what if stuff were to fall during earthquake which space is safest, which space is safest if son is errantly throwing lacrosse ball in driveway, etc.... I have looked at every angle and every possibility there is!
Also while waiting to get your baby home you buy several Porsche shirts/hats, new car washing stuff, and still looking for more crap!
