Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Sort of like why I get my oil and filter changed every 7,000 mi instead of waiting until 15,000 mi.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does the 996 C2 have a differential gearbox that the oil needs to be changed? I know that a front engine car does but not sure how things work with the rear engine 996 C2. If so could someone post a photo of where this DIY work can be carried out. I have searched youtube to no avail. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Your car has what's called a transaxle. It is a transmission that houses the differential inside. You'll find it between the rear wheels, in front of the engine. It is a good idea to change that fluid regularly. Look in your manual for the specs.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So you are saying that it is in fact part of the Transmission. I had a reconditioned transmission put in the car under warranty about a year ago so it should be ok then.. The car has done 10,000 miles since the new transmission was put in....Thanks..

POST 5Original post

In general, manual transmission C2's should have the transaxel fluid replaced at 90,000 mi. But I chose to have mine done at 60,000 mi. Couldn't stand the thought of letting the little (normal) metal specs cause unnecessary wear inside the transmission. Sort of like why I get my oil and filter changed every 7,000 mi instead of waiting until 15,000 mi. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the transaxel. And a filler plug on the side. Sorry, I don't have any more specifics. I let the dealer do it because they have a lot more experience, the right tools, and the correct fluid, and a lift.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dare devil & Thundertub... Hey thanks guys..Its good for another 80,000 miles then as I have only done 10,000 miles since the reconditioned transmission went in.
