Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After many years of wanting one, I finally bought myself a Porsche. I'm now the second owner of a '99 Carrera 4 that had 14,174 miles on it when I picked it up. Pics to avoid forum wrath:

POST 2Original post

Welcome to Rennlist! nice looking Aero. Congrats, put some miles on that thing!

POST 3Original post

so shinny, nice color, enjoy it. and congrats!!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm working on the miles thing. I picked it up on April 1 with 14,174. Today, just short of 3 weeks later, it now has 15.726 miles on it.

POST 5Original post

Not to scare you, but ultra low miles like that... do a search. Just don't want you to be blind-sided esp on the 1999s.

POST 6Original post

kr3678.....you could be my twin! You have a better interior than me though....great looking car. You will be amazed at the insight you gain here. Welcome!

POST 7Original post

Sweet find, congrats. I guess all those PO's are getting rid of their collectibles... I'm sure they took a bath on the trade-in...

POST 8Original post

Great car! The aero looks fantastic and with such low miles, it is like a new car. You will enjoy the tiptronic. My previous 996 was a 99 with a tiptronic. While I enjoy my current car with a 6-speed, every time I am in heavy traffic, I miss the tip. Congratulations and welcome aboard.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! It still smells new. There are 29 different option codes on the build sticker and I can honestly say I'd never seen this color (Mirage Metallic) until I encountered this car. I've read the horror stories about '99s and low miles, but I'll take the chance. A local independent Porsche mechanic (and PCA racer) checked the car over completely and only came back with recommendations for an oil change and a brake fluid flush. I gave him the go-ahead to do more, but he said all of the other filters and fluids look brand new. This won't be my daily driver, but I'm having too much fun right now to drive another car.

POST 10Original post

mind telling us how much you paid for it I am jsut curious on such low mileage car.

Let's see, Guy pays 90K+ for his C4 in 1999, Trades or sells it to a dealer for $25k or so with 14000 miles. That's like $4 per mile! Expensive ride time! Enjoy putting some miles on that thing. Take it up to 50k miles and it'll still have plenty of value.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The original MSRP of this car was $96,500. I hate to discuss the amount I paid, because there will inevitably be someone to pipe in about how I paid too much and that I could have gotten another one much cheaper, etc... Plus, there was a trade involved, so actual price is subject to interpretation. That being said, the dealer (Allen Akin of Encore Motors in Macon, GA - a great guy) initially listed the asking price at $32,500 and I paid less than that.

POST 14Original post

Looks great! Only 134,000 miles behind my '99 C4!

either way, it's the right car; for the options, miles, and knowing previous history. A dealer selling a well optioned cab or coupe knows that the car will sell itself if it's in excellent condition. If it has any details that might give away problems, an educated buyer will not come near it. Enjoy the car, maintain it and it'll give you plenty of enjoyment. Read up on certain issues these cars tend to develop so nothing comes as a surprise.

POST 16Original post

Real nice car you found there. Enjoy cruising it.

POST 17Original post

thanks for the feedback, yeah I understand talking price is kind of a bummer as there is always a smart *** who made a better deal Anyways this looks like a great car and with such low miles you are in the sweet spot for resale in a couple of years without problems.

POST 19Original post

Porsche with an automatic transmission. Sacrelidge!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7500417

I would have preferred a manual transmission, but the car was so good otherwise that I decided to overlook that. The condition and options are what sold me on this particular car. Plus, I haven't yet figured out how to custom order a used car. To be honest, it's really pretty nice with the Tiptronic.

POST 22Original post

Very nice, looks brand new and the interior appears plush. You're right, someone will always chime in that you paid too much...if you're happy then you did well. I'm also partial to the 99s MY, glad you started piling on the miles, welcome.

POST 23Original post

Congratulations on the new car - it looks great. I have a 99 Cab/Tip in Mirage with Savanah interior. I love the colour as you don't see it very often. Mine was a low mileage car as well - even though I had twice as many miles as you. The car has been trouble free. Enjoy your new ride.

POST 24Original post

Congratulations on a great looking Porsche. The important part is that you are comfortable with what you paid. The low miles on your car are a nice bonus. I have owned both tiptronics and sticks and enjoyed them both. I am a huge fan of the aerokit. Get out there and meet some of the local Porsche guys and gals as well. Enjoy your new Porsche in good health and welcome.

POST 25Original post

Beautiful car - use it well and enjoy the ride!!!

POST 29Original post

Congrats! Nice looking car. You don't need to make any excuses for the Tip... Rudy

POST 30Original post

hey Rudy... that sig is getting pretty long ... got the "mod bug"?

POST 31Original post

Good looking car. Congrats! Are a bunch of folks who purchased MY99 996 cars just now opening their time capsules and selling these cars? Lots of 99s popping up with no miles on them.
