Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'best solution' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best solution' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace pulleys' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Has anyone replaced pulleys on their 996 (or 986, 997, 987 since I think they're pretty similar)?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone replaced pulleys on their 996 (or 986, 997, 987 since I think they're pretty similar)? I just replaced mine with Sebro pulleys (
one
,
two
,
three
). The belt is hanging off the front by about a millimeter and has plenty of unused room on the back, so I'm assuming I'm missing a spacer on the back (side facing engine). I have unfortunately discarded my old parts at this point, but I really don't think I tossed any spacers that weren't in the replacement set. I'd say the tensioner pulley is tolerable, but the other two the belt is actually off the edge.
Has anyone else run into this? I really don't want to just blindly try ordering a different set of fairly expensive parts hoping they work better. Is this something where i can just try finding something the right size at the hardware store? Thanks in advance.
I have found that the sebro pullys r kinda universal. Adding a washer is probably the best solution. Also some folks have had issues with the plastic pullys so keep an eye in them.
I have never had problems with factory pulleys. I just keep track of all the spacers and washers when they come out and put the exact same numbers back. Do one at a time, or keep notes.
