Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Leading evidence: 'case' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'case' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My friend has recently acquired an '01 996 and would like to drill his airbox to mimic the motorsound option. Does anyone have a template they could share? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

I don't have access to my pics right now, but I am fairly confident his airbox is already drilled from the factory.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That proved to be the case. I thought there had been a motorsound option for 996's akin to the 993's.

POST 4Original post

dont drill the airbox. (unless you like to lose performance) hot engine comp. air is not a power gain.

POST 7Original post

hell if you must inject hot air in your motor, just put on a cone filter ↑↑↑

POST 8Original post

In general, cold = better. But, if you really engineer up a solution with all the right physics, there are benefits of a hot mixture (not by just letting hot air in though!!). Remember Smokey Yunick's Hot Vapor Fiero. He believed quality of air/fuel mixture (more homogenized) could have benifits over just shear quanity (cold = higher density of air/fuel) for both MPG and performance. Lot's more links on the physics of it, but this one has some nice pictures. http://www.legendarycollectorcars.co...clusive-video/

Then why did factory put holes in the stock box if "we all know" colder air is better?

POST 11Original post

so what does this drilled air box sound like????

POST 13Original post

I am almost 100% sure my airbox is not full of holes....that is a lot of holes they added for the MKII's?

Ed, you have some, but less, ~ by 1/2 IIRC

POST 15Original post

Been a while since I took that out... I will try and get a look next week... this week I already have a "fun project" working on making the sunroof open and close smother and faster

POST 16Original post

I have MK1 box already out that I can snap a few pictures tonight if you'd like. LMK

POST 17Original post

does anyone else know about your part hoarding sickness might be fun for a comparison - I guess I didnt look that carefully in the box, seem to remember what looked like drain holes was all...sure post it up - and thanks!

i dont recall mine having any holes. also sometimes there is a hole for water drainage. do what ya want i dont know anything about cars

I don't plan on touching my airbox but I thought people's thoughts are interesting because the box comes that way from factory. I guess Porsche engineers don't know anything about cars either.

POST 20Original post

Isn't this circular reasoning? Cold air is good. Nice sound is good. Porsche made a reasoned compromise on the MkII cars. That's still no excuse to hang an oily K&N cone filter in the middle of the engine compartment like it's some sort of Honda.

Many Civic owners would debate you on this... but because they are too ill from motion-sickness from bouncing all over the road, (road looks flat to me?) as a result of cutting down their springs and putting rock hard koni's and 20 inch rims on and because someone told them all of these add on's would make them go faster, they are unable to respond until their brains stop vibrating and then I'm sure they will let you know you are wrong.

Whew! Am I glad I bought an Accord and not a Civic!

POST 23Original post

Wow from holes in an airbox to brain bouncing 20" wheeled civic's in only 2 pages!
