You will connect the 996 boot to the 997 **** using the plastic clip and ring retainer you got from the 997 shift boot.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just transferred a shift **** from a 987 to my 986, so they do fit. All you need to do is remove the 997 **** from the boot (under the boot, there's a plastic clip that releases it from the **** after you unscrew it counter clockwise and pull, and then reuse that and the plastic ring that secures the leather boot on the 996 boot). To release the boot from the shift **** on your 996 shifter, just go under the boot and cut the zip tie that is holding the boot to your 996 shift ****. You will connect the 996 boot to the 997 **** using the plastic clip and ring retainer you got from the 997 shift boot. Voila... Note: This will only work if you have the updgraded 996 shift **** and boot currently in your car, for the standard teardrop shaped **** has a boot that does not come off the **** (unless you cut it off, in which case this mod will work too).
