I have had the duct joining-piece off under the steering wheel (RHD), but I'm sure it's all reconnected OK now.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks, I've not had my 996 for long, and I've been tinkering with it since getting it (fixing things). I've just noticed that there's almost no airflow through the dash vents, but loads through the foot and windscreen (when selected). It seems that when 'dash' is selected, it's still mostly blowing up through the windscreen, perhaps more so on the right-hand side. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like it's going to be the flaps/foam issue? I have seen John Salt's method of fixing this, but his symptoms seemed to be "excessive flow through the dash vents", whereas mine is 'none through the dash vents'. I have had the duct joining-piece off under the steering wheel (RHD), but I'm sure it's all reconnected OK now.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well the good news is, it's not the flaps. PIWIS shows an ECC fault for central flap motor. I can confirm motor doesn't move. I disconnect it (pain..) and move the flap by hand, and I have air through the dash! I think I have messed up when doing the HVAC control relocation and screen repair. I do have 2 empty sockets on the back of the HVAC controls, and I had been wondering about that. Maybe I have lost a connector behind the dash, that goes to the central flap motor.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found the culprit. I had a feeling it might have been something I had caused. but I've not driven the car enough to be sure that it wasn't already like this before I got it. Anyway, all good.
