Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took the car over to show John and he was completely happy for me and recommended other 3rd party shops that could handle some of minor stuff I wanted done.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I went to a Porsche dealer today and drove a 2001 C4. I asked the dealer about the RMS problem and he said that it did not affect the TIP cars, only the manuals. Is this true? By the way, I loved the car, I have a Corvette now and it made my car seem like a hunk of crap.
I just did a search, there seems to be some thought that TIP's don't get the RMS leak, but it seems to not be true. You are not the only one that reported RMS with a TIP.
It has to do with the concentricity of the engine main seal in extreme cases. If it turns out to not be a faulty seal part, then over-concentricity of the rear crankshaft housing will make any sealing impossible independent of the type of tranny the block is bolted to. [.50 MM is the limit of tolerable measured concentricity]
We have to remember that to salesmen a Porsche is nothing more than a commodity. Most of them, there are exceptions, will be selling another car brand within a year. So it shouldn't be surprising that most of them don't know what they are talking about and they will say whatever they think will help them close a deal.
Anyone who has a technical question about a 996 should pose it on this forum. You are far more likely to get the right answer here than at a car Dealership.
I think a used car salesman is the same regardless of make.
I looked at a C4 last week and he told me it was worth more than C2s, If he had been selling a C2 I'm sure they would have been worth more than C4s.
Remember, whatever he has to sell is the best...!!!
I asked a sales guy last week when I picked up my car from service whether the Cayman was a wet-sump? He answered "its wet because it has a radiator" haha.

yep, a salesman is not likely to discurage you from buying his product. When I was shopping for mine, the salesman acted as if I was the first person to mention RMS...
I guess I'm one of the lucky few who's local dealership actually has a knowledgeable and truly helpful staff at the dealership. I've been buggying one of the salesmen named John for years now and when I finally did buy my 996 it was through the local Lotus dealership instead. I took the car over to show John and he was completely happy for me and recommended other 3rd party shops that could handle some of minor stuff I wanted done. (redyeing the seats, ect)
When I've taken the car to the dealership to inquire if a few minor things were something I could fix or they should tackle, the service manager told me I could handle it and gave me basic instructions on what to do and what I'd need.
The parts department has been helpful also and so far I can't think of a single person at the dealership who hasn't been great and knew what they were doing. It wouldn't surprise me if the receptionist was a certified mechanic. Ok, maybe not that far but you get the idea.

Its easy to be happy with them if you never had a problem and never had to argue with them.
"But the sales guy told me that I could take it to drive on the racetrack with PCA"
"Sorry sir, tracking your car voids the warranty"
