Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

What I want is to trade its Tip for a manual, installed with no p-codes after conversion, just like now.
Leading evidence: 'Install with no p-codes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'favorite' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean stereo' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Our first Porsche and for that reason, probably the favorite.

Suggestion
And a very clean stereo for when I wish to listen.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

No, I'm not looking for another 996, but I want to know how much you'd be willing to sell your 996 in its current state, as it sits. Be as unrealistic as you want -- it's your car and you're in control.
And which car would you choose to replace it with?
2005(996) C4S, 1 of 728 sold as 2005 model, @58,000 miles, 2019 Jake reconstructed 3.8 engine. Priceless to me, but $40k+(after I've "moved on") so no replacement needed.
I would sell my early build for 38k .....68k miles and is fun to drive...Would NOT sell it for the $5200 offered last week by CARVANA ... an absolutely unrealistic amount for this car.... replace with a 914-6...Cheers
Polar Silver, numbers matching Classic Technical Certificate 2002 996 Cab with Bose, Heated leather Sport Seats with Porsche Crest, Seat backs and center console painted to match exterior, carbon fiber steering wheel and handbrake and Technic Package. IMS, RMS, UAOS, new clutch, tires, full suspension and brake refresh, nearly complete coolant hose replacement, spark plugs, coils and heat shield, motor mounts, etc. etc. no expense spared to preserve the car in stock condition. Winner of multiple car show awards. Now that I say all that, there is no way I am selling it for under $60K because it would be impossible to replace.
If I were to sell my 2003 Artic Silver C4S 6-speed, Id like to see $45k+. 41k miles on it as of now with solid maintenance records and 3 great UOA as of my ownership.
Its mechanically solid - all the big ticket items taken care of in the engine (except UAOS - probably do that this Winter) and just refreshed the entire suspension. Brakes are in great shape and all fluids/filters are new.
But Im not selling! I would for a Turbo if I found the right one, probably.
Exterior is an 8/10 but I plan to address those minor issues in the future.
This is a tough call.
I have driven everything from the 964 to the 992 and havent found one I want to own more than my 996. Tough to match the engaging drive and feel of a properly set up manual 996.2 narrow body.
Can't even come up with a price that would get my attention.
I bought my 2002 Carrera in 2002 and upgraded engine, suspension, exhaust, interior and exterior parts and refreshed parts many times over, so I will never get the money I spent on the car over the past 23 years back in a sale. But it doesnt matter. Its my car done the way i want it done.
Its a keeper. Then my son gets it.
But, if i was to get a 2nd play toy, it would be a 996.2 Cup Car as a dedicated track car.
This question makes my head hurt. '02 C2 Cab 6MT. Nobody wants those. But this one is white and is now in such mechanical shape that I would drive it anywhere. And i know it will work for the next 100k miles +. Could I use 50 more horsepower? Sure, but where would I use it? It's a manual trans, has an FSI 3.8l. It has a top that goes down to enjoy our 80 degree evenings. And a very clean stereo for when I wish to listen. It checks all my boxes for me right now. I guess the question makes my head hurt because of how implausible the number would be.

to do it. For a "true" RWD feel, you'll want to convert your front uprights to those from the C2 or even the GT3. It'll get costly quickly though, because you'll need their respective ancillaries as well: struts, mounts, and brakes.
Since he's got a C4S he already has brakes etc. compatible with GT3 front uprights, so all that's needed (ha!) is the GT3 front uprights, front struts and top mounts, and drop links.
The easier way is to get a pair of new aftermarket front driveshafts on Amazon. Then disassemble them to get the outer CV's. Remove the cardan shaft, front diff, and both front driveshafts. Install the outer CV's. Done for $200 and a few hours work.
I'd say ~$35k min for a sub 60k mile, 20+ year owned, excellent condition and obsessively maintained, time warp, mostly original '99 C2. Our first Porsche and for that reason, probably the favorite.
I never thought I'd be enamored with the color of a car until I acquired my 996. I haven't figured out how to photograph its color range, but I know it morphs based on the color of the sky and light of the day. As a 999 code it's the only one in the world.
What I want is to trade its Tip for a manual, installed with no p-codes after conversion, just like now.
I think a couple (or more) folks have changed out a Tip-trans for a manual. TheChunkNorris and Highlander? I just remember seeing some threads with this task. Maybe an option if you really want to do it?
Just suggestions.
YMMV

All original except for IMS Solution, Waterpump, Motor mounts, thermostat, RMS, coolant tank, spark plugs, coils, AOS. Black o Black.
I'd sell my 01 Cab (yes, it's a Tip) for no less than $30K. All maintenance (IMSB, RMS, coils, plugs, WP and on and on) has been done. The problem is, once she leaves my garage I would probably replace it with a Tip equipped 996TT Cab.
I have been tracking those threads. My Indy thinks I should just get another 996, and by almost all measures he is exactly right. Except I am in love. I know I shouldn't be. I figured out the hot girlfriend low IQ was to be avoided, no matter how hot they appeared to be, at all costs at a young age. But this car has its claws in me, far worse than those women. (I eventually married a smart hot one).
Everything about this car is correct, straight, well maintained, love the TPMS, CarPlay and I just added Soul cats/mufflers and finally have that 911 sound stock didn't have. Don't get me wrong, I love having the UAOS-Track, but that 911 sound is unmistakable.
What I'd like to do is drop it off with someone who has done it this Fall and pick it up in the Spring. I'll find the tranny/clutch so it's as bolt up/straightforward as I can make it with pre-planning.
