Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

for what its worth I talked with he service manager at the dealer and he said it was the RMS that was replaced.
Leading evidence: 'rms' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'rms' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean of any metal or plastic particles' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

it has zero oil leaks and when I recently changed the oil the filter it was clean of any metal or plastic particles.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, Im a noobe around here and just recently purchased my first Pcar, 03 996 coupe.
The car is awesome. engine is strong and the interior and exterior are nearly flawless.
Like everyone else I have concerns about the IMS. it has zero oil leaks and when I recently changed the oil the filter it was clean of any metal or plastic particles. Still would like to get the retrofit.
Can anyone decipher the front crankshaft oil seal item that shows up on one of the carfax service report for 8/2004? I cant find any service receipts in the car that provide any detail. Do you think its the RMS?
Transmission removed to complete repair

Emissions inspection completed
thanks!
Can't help with the question, but WOW!, what a great car. And pics with the post, too. Welcome to RL!
Oh. You can spell it noob, newb, or nube, and you guys always get it wrong. But noobe?
That is not the IMS bearing upgrade--although it would have been easy to do at the same time, my bet is you are still running the OEM bearings.
Chek out LN engineering's website for a detailed vid explaining the IMS failure scenario and fix.

Front crankshaft oil seal is the RMS.
This mostly likely
,
probably, or maybe
means you car has:
a newer RMS seal - Didn't the PTFE seal come out in 2005?
New IMS bolts and seal
New engine case bolts
It still has the orginal IMS unless someone else did the upgrade.
Most likely the crank's other seal (at the other end of the engine) was found to be leaking and thus replaced.
While the RMS gets all the press more than one Porsche parts manager has told me more than one seal at the other end of the crank has been found to be leaking and replaced.
Anyhow, nice looking car.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Macster.
thanks for all the compliments. This is a great forum, lots of good info and friendly folks, must be because of the car they drive
Its got just under 67k on it. The first owner had it serviced at Beverly Hills Porsche. I wonder if they would provide the details of that fix for me?
the trans pull was a separate repair....
I agree with Macster, its the FRONT crank seal...the side with the pulley for the alternator
BTW welcome, and nice looking car
for what its worth I talked with he service manager at the dealer and he said it was the RMS that was replaced. So that was 7 years ago so if i go ahead and get my IMS retrofit I might as well get a new RMS also. Too bad the clutch is only 2 yers old.
