Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The car I trust, just not others from running into me.
Leading evidence: 'Run into me' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I bought a used set from a PCA member for $1000 shipped and have used them 2 seasons.

I don't think you need N spec winter tires, unless you plan on going top speed on a track using winter rubber??
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've tried to work with the 944 but am unable to get past the (lack of) horsepower issue so it's going on the chopping block.
This leaves me with the 996 and remembering the time I tried to take it out last winter. Small amounts of sleet, a thin coat of mud on the road and it's grounded courtesy of the n rated tires.
The obvious solution is to get another car (along with insurance, taxes, storage, maintenance, etc.) but I was thinking "could there be a way to make this work?"
renting a car for the days/weeks of inclement weather but one has to be able to anticipate those days and isn't prepared for the unexpected flurries.
anyone else out there only have one car (that doesn't drive in winter) and if so, what measures do you put in place to deal with wintery conditions?
As mentioned, 4 snows are the key. People drive their Porsches(C2s or C4s) all year, myself included. I'd suggest you try it...you'll love it and so will your Porsche.
It's not the N spec, it is the summer vs. winter compound. Drive mine year round, 04 996 C2, but use "winter" n spec tires and I have driven through unbelievable winter conditions. (at times even I think I must be insane, like "what the heck was I thinking". But made it through 4 winters so far. The kicker is that I do have another car, front wheel drive, but the Porsche is just so much better in the snow.
Proper equipment is not cheap, but it is effective.
No doubt. The only thing that keeps me from taking the C4S out in the snow is when the snow is deeper than 6 inches. On those days, I drive the Cayenne. With the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow tires in place, the Cayenne is unstoppable.
Agreed. And you can get 17s if you want to...save's a lot of money. I bought a used set from a PCA member for $1000 shipped and have used them 2 seasons. I'll likely put new rears on as they are getting too low.
