Thought about just using Easypass 3M stickies to attach to middle front console or visor mirror lid (and use just the internal battery most of the time) to cut down on clutter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last threads on this was over 2 years ago so I thought Id check on whose been creative since then. Just bought a Garmin 880T (on sale at Best Buy this week for $399, includes bluetooth, voice recognition, FM modulator audio output and MP3). I hate the look of windshield mounts and wires runing all over the place. Thought about just using Easypass 3M stickies to attach to middle front console or visor mirror lid (and use just the internal battery most of the time) to cut down on clutter. Anyone else do anything innovative and NEAT to work these onto the dash, visors, a/c vents, etc? Looking for good ideas! Pictures please!

POST 2Original post

I hardwired mine and am holding it in place by sliding the fold-out antenna between the CD holder and the cubby. Works like a charm

POST 3Original post

I bought the vent mount on ebay for like 8 bucks and it works great. I Use the Garmin more as on MP3 player and it was too far to reach when mounted on the dash using their mounting disk. The only drawback is that the mount is in the way of the cup holder somewhat.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Vent mount sounds promising. Got a link, picture or part name/modlel number? Thanks

Use one of those in my Saab, works great.

POST 7Original post

How often do you use it in the Porsche? I only use mine on occasion, so use the Garmin friction (kind of a bean-bag) mount. When I stop I just put it on the back seat (I keep the back seatbacks in the down position, making kind of a secure cubby hole). Not the best idea for constant use, however.

POST 8Original post

I never remove my vent mount -- just the navi which goes into one of the storage compartments. the vent mount comes out fairly easy for whenever I need a caffeine infusion during a drive (rarely)

POST 9Original post

I tried this today and you're right, it does work nicely. However, I ordered the vent mount b/c for me it's a better viewing angle. I have the sandbag, but it doesn't do well during even moderate cornering, so I will sell it after the vent mount comes.

POST 10Original post

I use the Garmin friction mount. It allows me to move my Nuvi between vehicles without leaving a "telltale" ring on the windshield. Also, I found the original suction cup mount fairly difficult to remove in a hurry. This works for me, it's not glamorous. Here's a pic.

POST 11Original post

sort of on topic: anyone know how to safely remove that disk? the PO glued it to the dash and I dont want it.

+1 I use this. Works great!!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Experimenting with “EZ-PASS” tape (3M plastic mushroom pin “Velcro”, in black). The 885T has a 4 hour battery so no wires needed most of the time. Put two strips on back of unit and one to mount to above the ac/heat display in front lower console. Very firm hold even with just the one strip. Nice look. Also put two mounting strips on windshield near the headliner so the top of GPS rides flush with the top of the windshield, directly in line with center of wheel. In this position the street map display is directly up from line of sight when truly needing/wanting to use the advanced 3D road map and “lane change” display without having to take your eyes off the road by having to look down. The top windshield position also puts the unit near the antenna in the pillar so the FM audio output of the unit is strong (works just as well in the lower console mount position too). Nice feature, especially when used with the unit’s MP3 player/and optional 8 GIG micro SD card storing 2000 songs. Love the tape’s ability to grip and hold “10 times” better than nylon hook Velco.

Anyone try the arkon gn097? http://www.amazon.com/GN097-USB-Pede.../dp/B001US4RUA I have a Nuvi 660 with a friction mount but with my driving and the slope of the dash it doesn't work that well.

POST 17Original post

This one seems interesting. You plug the Garmin into the cigarette lighter and adjust the gooseneck as you desire, and then plug the power for the Garmin into the socket on the end of the mount. http://www.amazon.com/IG-CL4SA-i-Tre...=pd_rhf_shvl_4
